When did you acquire your first AR?
Mine was a BM Varminter right in the middle of the AWB. |
2004 after I got out of grad school and started making decent $$$
Quoted: See my join date. Funny. Mine was about two months before my join date. I was slow to find ARFCOM Then I lost my ever loving mind on tacticool stuff................ |
My first was in 1992 it was pretty much a safe queen. I contracted BRD about ten years later.
Around 2003. I got a Colt in trade for a Marlin 30/30 and a Ruger P89.
I wanted to sell the Marlin and Ruger but a buddy offered to trade me. |

your date choices are weird and makes no sense. Obviously curious about the effect of the Clinton ban on AR sales among members here. |
Back in the late '80s. It was a 20" Colt Heavy Barrel Sporter. It had large pins and that milled through bolt carrier.
The day before the 2000 presidential election.
It looked like Algore was going to get in, so, I went down and bought an Armalite M15A2. I thought, better buy it now, or maybe never buy another again. Which is true- I have since found out, I like AKs better. |
An "AR" took posession of me when I joined the ARMY in 1989.

Since the AWB and elections are on XXX4 and XXX8 years, I could have broken it up that way, but I though just putting the '70's and the '80's at the beginning was easier. |

My first was a Colt CAR15 in 1978. My present AR,an SP1 Colt Commando, has been in my possession for almost thirty years.

1988. Olympic Arms. Still have it and shoot it occasionally.

I bought my first and only AR-15 in 06, but it has lead the way to many more firearms purchases. I had seen one in a pawn shop back in the mid 80s and had always wanted one, just never got around to buying one. My oldest brother who is a cop asked me if I wanted to go to a gun show with him, I saw some and bought one, I may not have the black rifle disease, since I only have one, but I do have the firearm disease. AK-47 (WASR-10) 10/22, shotgun, handguns, M1 Grand, M1 carbine, and more. I really enjoy shooting them all.

Got one at Fort Benning in 1993. Got another one in the ROK and yet another one at Fort Campbell. After I got out, I used to have dreams about misplacing it in the field. Those dreams stopped when I got a citizen model a couple years ago.

mid 2000's when I was 16.
shelled out $1,000 for an RRA A4 and carry handle. Dad did the paperwork, I paid for it. It was between that or a custom eclipse II. Glad I went the AR route |
1993. Colt Sporter. I got the rifle, scope mount, 20 30rd. magazines, one sealed 60's era 20 rd. magazine, and a drag bag for $600. |
Were civilian AR's available in the 1960's? I didn't figure anyone on here would have had one then anyway, so I started the poll with the 1970's. Kudos to you fellows who bought them back in the 1970's when the Fudd guns were the cool guns to have.

April 2008, when I was truly frightened in the direction of the Democrat primaries between Billary and Obongo - and justifiably so.
The fact that the cock-sucking RINO McCain was making a comeback only reinforced my decision to need one. |
In 2002 or so I bought an Oly Plinker when they first came out. Then I built 2 Model 1 Sales guns.
I didn't make much money then and the Plinker was a damn good gun for, well, plinking. Never gave me any trouble. The one M1S gun eventually became an SBR, and now the only M1S part left after a LaRue barrel, VLTOR handguard, Magpul furniture, etc, is the upper receiver itself. |
SP1, like new, in the very early 80's
My dad said "fine weapon, they will try to take it away, never let that happen, at any cost". |
I voted, "never aquired". But that is because it hasn't been shipped yet.
I bought a Bushmaster "M4" in March of 2005, and I've had BRD ever since.
And I'm disappointed that I didn't discover this site until last year... |
In Jan. of 2006 I spent my Christmas Bonus on it. I told my wife it was for our son.
He was 2 months old at the time. She asked me why he needed a machine gun. It was a DPMS that I bought from Del-Ton. They we're at a gun show in Charlotte with a lot of DPMS rifles I don't think they made their own rifles back then. |

In 02 I bought a big POS Hesse lower to go with the Bushmaster Varminter upper that I bought on ebay back when you could buy gun stuff on it.
Thanks to all the malfunctions with the lower, I searched the interwebs for solutions and found Arfcom |
