His choices make a lot of sense.  First by decade before the ban, during the ban, between the ban and Obama's election, after Obama.  Or were you being sarcastic?

Looks to me like the AWB kinda backfired.

2001

Bought a pre-ban EA Co. cast lower receiver that somebody had built into a CAR-15... it was the worst AR I ever owned. I know now that I was having mag issues and the gas key was loose, but I didn't know any better... and it probably didn't help that I was shooting shitty lacquer coated Wolf ammo threw it. Anyway I sold it and bought an Olympic Arms M4gery... did all of the stupid shit that a new M4 owner does, hung all kinds of shit off of it... then the ban sunset and I started building them. I've owned quite a few since then... probably 30 or so.... I think I have about 5 or 6 right now, but I don't feel like going to the safe to find out!

I bought my Colt SP1 Sporter in 1987 while stationed at Castle AFB in California.  A senior NCO sold firearms as a side business with his FFL.  I lived in the barracks and he had to drive me from his home back onto base where he promptly took me to the armory.  Mine was the first known AR15 type rifle on base with circular handgaurds.  Everything else still had triangle handgaurds.  It is still with me although my son adopted it while shooting three gun matches with me as of late.  I've replaced three parts over the years.  It is one of the best rifles I've ever bought.  Oh yeah one more thing.  I paid $510 for it.

summer 2007, wasn't really looking for one. was looking for a pistol. a gun store had a nice used one on consignment so i grabbed it up. cool thing was the guy who managed the shop happened to be the dad of the seller so he came in and i paid the price he was asking, and not the consignment fee. bought a couple of mags from the shop and a box of ammo and went to my anatomy lab........

I bout a Colt HBAR (blue label) in September of 1993 in Sioux City, IA.  I paid $730 at a gun show.  In 1998 prices were still through the roof, I sold it for over double what I paid for it.  In the mean time I built a few parts guns here and there, but finally found exactly what I wanted in August of 2004: a Colt MT6700 for $700 from a local seller.  The owner had fired 20 rounds through it and put it on the market because he got bit by the M1A bug.

I bought it and had the barrel turned to the govt profile, the threads added to the end of the barrel for the flash suppressor (A1 birdcage installed), and a correct front sight w/ bayonet lug.  I mounted a ACOG TA31 on top and I have me my "AR15A4".  I love it!  It is the only AR15 I have and I need no other, I bought a few spares of certain parts that wear out over time (extractor/ejector assemblies, springs, etc).

That is my story and I'm stickin' to it.

When did you acquire your first AR?

Mine was a BM Varminter right in the middle of the AWB.

I only bought my AR a few years ago, however, I first fired an "AR" back in the fall of '87.  I remember opening up mine and initially thinking some parts were missing from the lower and the bolt carrier wasn't quite right.  All of "my" previous "AR's" belonged to the army and were M16A1's.    Sadly, they kept them, along with the M2 I was issued.

ETA, I tried to pick up one in 94 or 95 but my FFL / Professor had his FFL taken away.  (Fuck Clinton)

My first AR was a M16A2 back in 03. I was brokenhearted when I had to give it back. Had fun shooting uncle sam's guns for a few years before I needed my own. I found AR15.COM in 06 while researching ARs, and I picked up my first one the day I got laid off from my job on 5May2007. Just so happened my FFL called to say it came in an hour before I got let go. I giggled a little bit about that.

Hi all, I am new to the sight, but have been shooting for 25+ years.
Back in 1990, my first AR variant was kindly issued to me by the Canadian Government soon after I swore an oath to the Queen, a Diemaco C-7( M16A1E1). It shot very well, and I enjoyed it the whole time carried it.
(I also became saddled with an 84mm Carl G in battle school due to my smart mouth.)
Like most that were trained on the C-7/ M16A1 I was also bitten by the little black rifle bug, but first bought a Springfield m1a, as they are “non-restricted” here in Canada. Unfortunately all AR variants are “restricted” here in Canada –meaning they can only be legally shot on government approved ranges.
This fall, after 20 years of waiting on the laws on black rifles to change up here, I finally gave up and picked up a Norinco CQ-A /m4gery with the 14’’chromed barrel and MIL-STD-1913 flat top upper. Everything feels in the right place with the Norinco. But after shoot it some, I have come to miss the 20” hammer-forged barrel, and ultimately it lacks the fit and finish of an American made AR.
