I still don't understand why most competition guys run around with long, heavy 18" SS rigs. Far from saying 10.3" is the answer (though it can be adequate as you know first hand), but there's lengths between 10.3 and 18 that are just as equally suited for nearly any 3 gun competition. A quality non SS 14.5" mid with an adjustable gas block is going to be much handier, much lighter, shoot nearly as soft, and make the same hits that any 18" would in competition. |

Though that rig still looks and feels so naked without its M300B. The new Mod 3 FDE Gear Sector offset Scout mount is supposed to finally be on its way to me shortly though... I'm going the same direction with Aimpoint optics on both my shorty and M4A1. Fortunately the T-1's are "allowed" for the M4A1 but regardless I'm just not an EOTech fan. If they made an EXPS with ONLY a single dot I'd consider it. I'm a noob when it comes to all this new stuff (I'm a recent stalker to this forum, out of the RETRO forum) but isn't that what the EXPS3-0 is? I just bought one for my CQBR? build that I'm working on. The EOTech reticle is not just a dot, it's a dot with a circle around it and 4 hash marks on the circle. ahh........gotcha. I was thinking he thought Eotech only had the 2 and 3 dot versions of the EXPS. |

Okay, starting a Mk 18 Mod 0 pistol clone with one of those lame, but functional, Sig braces. I'm ordering a pistol lower once I get my NC pistol permits in and then going to look for an upper. I'm thinking of going with a LMT 10.5 for now. Anyone else make an upper worth getting.I have been looking through the EE nothing I have liked too much.

View Quote LMT will be good to go and would be my personal second choice next to Colt. You can get a real-deal Colt from Specialized Armament Warehouse, but they aren't cheap. Try and get a stamp for an SBR if you can...it's totally worth it. Good luck with your build. ETA: I prefer LMT and Colt to others because they have properly sized gas ports for NATO-spec ammo, which prevents premature wear of other critical components such as the bolt. The Colt is obviously authentic (i.e., meets TDP and is 10.3" compared to LMT's 10.5" barrel). I like the heavier-contour of the LMT, too, which offers additional rigidity for a suppressor as well as reinforcing weak points in a govt-contour barrel under heavier firing cycles (which may be less of an issue under semi auto fire). |
|
|
I'd go the SBR route but my hometown is in CA and I'll probably return there when I get out of the .mil. I also like to travel with my weapons so I'd rather not have it trapped in the state. Thank you for the other insight as well. Looks like LMT will be the way I go. I have an LMT rear sight from the last LMT carbine I bought but may throw my SU231 and a maetech on it. I also have an extra ras too and a 951 so those will probably go on it as well. Not sure about the 951 though as it's a bit bulky. That'll probably stay on my M4 clone.
