And it wasn't bad!

Went to a Sushi Train style restaurant. I don't remember what all I had but it wasn't terrible.

One of the things I had had wayyy too much cucumber in it that started to gross me out.

Not sure if I'll go again.

I like sushi, but I agree with the cucumber thing.
I usually just take the cucumber out and eat the rest with some soy sauce and wasabi,

Sakura at 75th & Nieman? I fuckin' LOVE me some sushi train!

If you want some really good sushi in our 'hood, go to Eddoko off of 87th at ... um ... I can't remember. East of Pflumm.

ETA: I much prefer cucumber over avocado.

The first time I had sushi, I knew nothing about what I was ordering but picked some items from the menu that looked nice. When it arrived at the table, I looked it over and for some crazy unexplained reason I decided to pop the green dollop into my mouth. I quickly learned about wasabi.

If you go back to sushi train, go in the evening. They open at 5, but the train doesn't roll until 5:30 or so. You get to see Asian pimps bringing their hot-looking Asian prostitutes in.

I bought some sushi the other night, I took it home and fried it up, it was good. (Rimshot!)

Actually I am too germphobic to eat raw fish, sorry. I am even getting scared of raw veggies lately.

The best ahi tuna I have ever had was in Hawaii. Nobu in NYC has the best sushi I have eaten. Still want to go to Masa in NYC but dinner for one is $500 and that is without alcohol.

Japanese food is disgusting. The worst "popular" cuisine in the world.

I stick to sashimi or nigiri for that reason.

Not a roll fan.

Unless it's a spicy octopus roll or a dragon roll with unagi and eel sauce.

Tempura + yakitori + beer (or sake) FTMFW!

I do like sushi but I honestly enjoy the other stuff more.

ETA: And I grew up in Hawaii (Oahu). Gimmie some Saimin!

Eel is about the only sushi I don't love. I will eat it though. Sashimi is great and simple.

I like the artistry that trained chefs display. I often envy the bears that catch salmon. I could just take a big old bite right out of the side of a salmon or tuna, zombie style, right this second.

You want something really awesome?

Try lightly seared tataki (tuna) with ponzu, ginger, and a touch of wasabi, with rice and boiled sweet carrots. Drop-dead AWESOME.

Now some good raw oysters, ok.

CJ

I made a ribeye tataki not too long ago with buckwheat soba noodles and a home made ginger ponzu.

Soo good. The inside of the beef never made it past 80 degrees.

I don't get it. Most sushi I've had is just good to use as a sponge for soy sauce and wasabi.

Raw eel FTW.

I really enjoy Sushi, but I am picky about where I eat. The place I really like is really expensive, but the quality of the Sushi is by far the best I have ever had. I ate some Sushi in Galveston last year and it was wonderful. I will eat pretty much anything but squid and urchin.
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 12:07:31 PM EDT
Toro for the win.

Unagi for the Powar.
Link Posted: 9/9/2010 12:34:59 PM EDT
Tako, Unagi, Ebi, all are favorites of mine. Toro is good too.

I like the Tako Sashimi

Cucumber is not sushi. You should be eating fish or fish and rice.

That's the thing about wasabi... I've been to some places where the wasabi isn't very hot and to others where it will burn you out of your chair.... trust me, what you see on the plate in the picture was plenty hot... I could only put a little of it in my soy sauce. It will definitely clear the sinuses!
