Well shit I've fallen to 4th.

I think my gun needs to get rebarreled. My ammo isn't shooting as well as it used to, and over the last two weeks I realized I put A LOT more rounds through it then I even thought I did. Probably nearing 7-10k

No the question is... another Lothar Walthar, or will you sell me a barrel Mark?

Holy shit.  I might have to have me one 6.5 Creedmoor.

I e-mailed Noveske regarding accuracy of their stainless barrel and how my 1.3-1.8 MOA groups from my Afghan as of late has been shitty.

They responded with, "accuracy is subjective" and "1.3"-1.8" at 100 yards is good."

I should have went with Larue.

Ill buy some! Amazon prime FTW

Edit: Oh wait a second. I'm talking about my 18" 5.56. Still saving up for a .308 tOBR .260 is based on .308 rifles right?

I guess I need to do this thing in the next few days.  I shot this ten round group last weekend.  People told me I need to come do this challenge. So I'll try to find time sometime in the next 4 days.

Is this challenge ongoing, or did it end at the end of 2014?  I'm very anxious to try this out, but not sure if I should post my entry here or wait for the next thread to pop up for 2015.

Also, the first post states that 2" at 200yds = 1 MOA... are we supposed to use 1" at 100yds or the true/exact measurement of 1.047" at 100yds for our calculations?

I took my Rem 700 to the range for the 2nd time today to do this challenge, and had a blast!  I hope to improve a ton in the coming months after getting some real training and dialing in some handloads for the rifle.

1st pic of target at 100yds:

2nd pic of target with group size written down next to each group (I used On Target to get the sizes):

3rd pic of calipers left over best group:

4th pic of my Remington 700 LTR in .308 with Harris bipod and homemade rear sock:

Five group sizes: .608", 1.053", 1.193", .757", .975" adds up to 4.586, divided by 5 equals .9172" average, divided by 1.047 equals .876 MOA.

The rifle is my Rem 700 LTR in .308 (20", 1:12 twist heavy fluted barrel) with 168gr FGMM.  The scope is a SWFA SS 10x42 mounted in Seekins Precision rings and a 20 MOA base.  The bipod is a Harris 6-9" swivel notched-leg model, and the rear bag is a sock I cut up and stuffed with beans (I have to maintain constant pressure on the sock to keep on target).

Final Results:

Bolt Division with magnified optics (100yds), weaverftw: Rifle: Remington 700 LTR .308 (completely stock except for optic and bipod)- Optics: SWFA SS 10x42 - Ammo: 168gr FGMM (factory loaded SMK). Groups: .608"/1.053"/1.193"/.757"/.975" = avg. .9172" = .876 MOA

What kind of issues are you having?  Is it consistent or random?  It's hard to give advice without knowing exactly what's going on, but have you double and triple-checked how tight the action screws, scope base screws, and scope ring screws are?  If your action was torqued into the stock at 65in-lbs at one point, and you removed it then re-torqued the screw(s) to 40in-lb, it could cause problems even if the action seems to be securely held in the stock.  Just a thought.

Time for a bumpdate of Claimers.

WALL OF CLAIM

This post will serve as the place to call out anyone who publicly posts unsubstantiated claims of beyond MOA accuracy on AR15.com. If you attack someone's accuracy in a thread, say something along the lines of "I could do better than that with...." or "That group sucks", when it is a .5MOA group; or swear that you have a <.5 MOA off-the-shelf hunting rifle, this is where you prove it. If you post pictures in the original thread along with your claim, you won't be added.

If someone sees an accuracy claim made that qualifies a poster for this list, send me the user name, link to the thread, and the post number where the claim was made. If the post meets the requirements, the candidate and their claim will be added to the list.

If you happen to find yourself on this list, you can easily be removed by participating in the challenge, whether you prove your original claim or not.

If there are extenuating circumstances (ie: you can't find ammo, you sold the rifle in question, etc.), your excuse will be posted along with the claim.

You've Been Called Out. - Site Staff Approved

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

fps: My brother and I both have them. Ours love 168 gr FGMM. Sub moa all day.

Trollslayer: I get 1/2 MOA (1") vertical dispersion plus whatever drift due to wind. I test at 200 yards. I simply cannot shoot better than that.

Dirtymoe21: Shot .58 (100 yards) out of my newly built SPR.

gotigers: I like my 5R as is, factory except for a Jewel trigger, Harris bipod, Vortex PST 4-16 mrad and 20MOA base............ It is a 1/2 MOA rifle at 100

Holes: RRA has a lifetime warranty and shoots 3\4 MOA with Federal XM193. Just my observation.

lucky_dog: My 24" FCP-SR is also a .5 MOA gun

kp751: My 24" fcp-hs shoots 1/2 moa.

JayC: RRA LAR-8 X1. Cool looking, and has a great barrel. Also, it shoots well under 1 MOA (close to 1/2MOA) using FGMM

Silverjay: All my loads that shoot well ( .3 MOA) The ones that cycle well shoot .75 MOA

Brandon21: Savage Hog Hunter, I shoot Hornady A-Max 168, shoots 1/2-3/4" if I do my part with boring regularity.

MadcapMagician: They'll shoot sub quarter MOA at 100, hold sub half to 1000 and at least sub MOA at 1300yds.

tigermilk: DPMS Mk12 barrel I have 2, and with black hills mk 262, they both shoot consistently under 1 MOA.

rideage: Rainier match barrel here...easily 1 MOA with handloads

brickeye: I have a Berger built live varmint rifle with tight necks on all the barrels. It is scary accurate. Good enough to change barrels, dial in the offset for the new barrel and shoot under 1/4 inch at 100 yards.

rksonex: X2 I have A rainier select that shoots .6 MOA all day with 75gr Hornady. I have a 16" select that shoots Sub MOA with m193 and .5 MOA with 75gr handholds.

Pirkle: I have two of the Stag Model 6's and they shoot sub MOA at 100 yards. I also have several RRA rifles that shoot sub MOA.

southpaw68: I'm having really good luck with 165gn Sierra GameKings..sub .5" when I do my part.

buck19delta: Claiming a 5 shot sub MOA group.

swimshoot: Out of the 6 ARs I oown, only one is a RRA, but it runs just over 3/4 (MOA) with BH 77s.

cantgrowup: I shot a 100 yd sub-MOA group with Magpul plastic flip-up sights.(IMI razor-core)

NorthPolar: My 10LE holds 2/3moa with 75gr Hornady match

gytheran : My 583 (mini-14) stainless model has put my amateur reloads sub MOA(yes, 100yds) using only front supported sandbags and a 3x nikon p-223 in semi-rapid fire succession.

ISED8U: My FN SPR was half moa or better from the day I took it out of the box.

blueheeler66: I have an early SR-25 that is sub 0.5 MOA

molar: I'd put my 16" Daniel Defense barrel up against any. After putting a 1-4 on it, it routinely does 3/4 MOA at 100

Hydra-shokz: Looks like a bunch of buckshot patterns! Shit, I ain't even gonna get my good ammo out to crush you fuckers!!!

Howie_Phelterbush: my $849 remington shoots .80! with a $250 scope

xLucidx: Shoots .25 moa at 100 if I do my part. Posted a 3 shot group that was nice but didn't complete the challenge akethan

sgwlower: my JP shoots .33 moa consistantly

Mblades: My SR-15 shoots sub MOA with several different kinds of ammo.

imartez: The Wilson (barrel) is dead nuts accurate. 1/2 moa @ 100 yards, easily

oldrock: It is a ruger bolt action in .308 with a Nikon 3x9 scope and quick detach sling. the thing shoots great (1"@100 yards all day long)

tactical45: I am very happy with my Spike's 16" mid length chf barrel. It is as accurate as I hoped it would be. It will shoot around 1.5" at 100 yard with xm193 and less than 1" with my handloads.

RobHazmat My (PSA) runs all day with whatever I put in it and I can hit sub MOA at 200 yards with a primary arms 14x optic.

NormallyAspirated2:My Rem 700 308 shoots 3 168gr bullets into less than .25 @100 best 3 shot was .104"

M4HK33: No need to. (join in the MOA thread) There are already plenty of rifles in that thread that outshoot OBR's at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost.

(He likes to run his mouth and make fun but won't man up and post his own entry)

Dragynn "Both my veeps'll do that now most of the time, not really earth-shaking." (referring to 1 MOA) original thread

Katrina24: "if thats with a scope get your money back....... you shoud get 1 MOA at 100 yards with A2 open sights.. with a scope I can put rounds in the same holes @100 M and 1MOA at 300 M." original thread

Layer60: "Don't care what anyone says, there are some $600 rifles off the shelf that will shoot a dime-sized group at 100 yards, right out of the box. With Hornady Match A-Max rounds or similar (I'm not sure what's similar), you can punch the same hole repeatedly if you're even a half-assed shooter." original thread

thewildman: "it is a .308 at 100 yards, you should be able to shoot a better group than that blindfolded and offhand. and yes, at that distance with a semi decent shooter behind it, it should make one jagged hole." (referring to ~.5" 3-shot group) original thread

CoolioDot223: "My A Bolt .270 with a 4x Sporter scope does 3 shot ragged hole at 100."original thread

zwVirtual: I can shoot an AR-15 with iron sights and get almost as good of a grouping. (referring to .5” 3-shot group) original thread

88_Sahara: "My SPS tactical shot better groups than that with milsurp. (referring to .5” 3-shot group)"original thread

BubbaDog81: "I can do that with my stock 700 at 100 yards. (referring to .5” 3-shot group)"original thread

dillehayd: "Last bolt gun I had was a 700 in .270 w/ a 4-10x Leupold from a sporting goods store. It shot groups like that all day long. (referring to .5” 3-shot group)"original thread

Scottfn308: "Most any off the rack hunting rifle will do 1 MOA nowdays." original thread

Buck19Delta: "it looks like it shoots well.... try some different ammo.....you should be able to get better than a 1/2 inch at 100 yards. i can do that with my stock LTR, and model 7, XCR, with no trouble. happy shooting!"original thread

DigDug "That three shot group at 100 yards off a bench should be an enlarged ragged hole, not three separate holes. (referring to .5” 3-shot group)" original thread

They get notice by IM or a post in the thread.  Some get worked up over it. Most vow to complete and never do.

This is my first submission with my LaRue MBT trigger in there.... As I settled down my groups improved, so I know I can do better.   This handload was not developed for this weapon either, so I imagine I can tune it up a bit with time.

SPR 100yd; FALARAK: Self built Krieger .223 20" LaRue Rail, LaRue MBT trigger, LaRue Harris bipod, PRS - Leupold VariX-III 6.5x20 in LaRue LT-104 - 77gr SMK handload 24.5gr Varget CCIBR - Groups 1.016 / 0.823 / 0.792 / 0.573 / 0.576 = avg .756" =  .722 MOA

Every WOA 1:7 I ever had HATED 55gr (2MOA was best I ever got).  They SUCKED at 69SMK's and Hornady 75gr BTHP as well, maybe 1.5MOA.  They shot lights out with 77gr SMK's and Varget tho.  I know they are good barrels, but damn they are picky on loads.

Surely you mean 4.8 MOA. If I had Wolf shooting 0.48 MOA I'd have that target bronzed and buy a container load of Wolf

You obviously haven't shot Wolf Gold 55gr then.

Not saying it will do .48MOA, but it is the most accurate bulk 55gr M193 ammo I have ever seen.  Do NOT assume when someone says "Wolf" it means Russian steel case ammo.  Wolf is an importer and has a diverse and changing product line.

Nothing to complain about either though. Where in VA are you located? I like your range.

Fort Eustis Army Base just north of Newport News.  It's run through MWR, and the fee is $30 for the entire year.  500 yard range, and 50 station outdoor pistol range.  It's the best kept secret in the Hampton Roads area and no one uses it.

Quick question for you precision junkies:  Aside from the challenge and 5 for 25  grouping on paper, what is the "Ideal" group total to obtain an accurate MOA sample? I get the fact that one tight group on a 25 shot target is not an average or adequate sample, but if for argument sake I shoot  a couple 5 shot groups that are sub .500, is my rifle a sub .500 shooter?

Most people will use one 3 shot group for bragging rights. Reality is a repeatable 5 shot group is a good indicator of a sub MOA gun/shooter combo. Few would argue with repeatable sub 1" 10 shot groups.
