In a poll with over 500 respondents, 93% of Arfcom says the military should ditch the M17/M18. I can’t think of many polls where 90%+ of Arfcom agrees on anything. I don’t know if 90%+ of Arfcom likes getting blowjobs. I don’t know if 90%+ of Arfcom would keep a $100 bill they found blowing across a parking lot. And yet, here we are. |

The unnamed airman died while on duty at the F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming on Sunday, an Air Force official told Soldier of Fortune Magazine. The cause of death was not immediately clear, but he was assigned to the 90th Security Forces Squadron, 90th Missile Wing. “Effective immediately, all personnel in AFGSC will pause use of the MI8 MHS for all operational and training activities until further notice,” Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere wrote in a Monday memo. “This pause will remain in place until completion of ongoing AFOSI and Safety investigations into a recent incident at F.E. Warren AFB.” The M18 pistol is a variant of the Sig Sauer M17 pistol and is standard issue for many security personnel in the Air Force. It is also used by Army units. Is this video a bit misleading? From the memo, it seems that it's only a Global Strike Command policy... Which is one Command, a significant sized unit, but still a fairly small fraction of the whole Air force. It's like making a video that "US Police ban the P-320" when the Dallas PD ditched them. This needs to go up the chain and all the services need to shut these shitty pistols down before more of our troops are injured or killed. |

Absolutely, he extrapolated from Global Strike Command to the whole Air Force. Not everyone has all their facts straight yet - nor do we have confirmation that a 320 did kill the Airman in question. Will look it up. Should also try to find a flat trigger again for the Steyr while I’m at it. Damned arthritis has my trigger finger bent so I can only touch the tip of the trigger. Not a big deal as it’s only slightly curved but flat feels so much better and more consistent. It sucks that this will probably affect the fancy new Sig rifle stuff. There are multiple avenues. Dropping a Level II CAR without talking to the PM and KO first would be unwise. DCMA is only able to perform the tasks delegated to them by the PM and KO, and has no firsthand knowledge of the incident. Defending against a CAR costs a lot of hours, which means a lot of money on a cost plus contract. Or a request for equitable adjustment on a fixed price contract. And those are a shitshow. Kharn |

I've been out for decades, but some members here have said that command carries a lot of weight in the AF Security Forces. If I understand them correctly they kind of lead in procuring and developing equipment and standards. |
