So I come home from the grocery store tonight and I saw this flyer outside my apartment (we have special clips outside our doors for handbills).
SHIT!!! Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do with 25,000 rounds of ammo and I need to figure it out and do it by tomorrow morning. Otherwise I might have to answer some uncomfortable questions. Oh, and if I come up missing over the next couple of days, and you see a thread about an arsenal being discovered then don't bother doing a headcount, just call me a lawyer!!!

No, but there was that guy a couple months ago who had the plumber come into his apartment and call the cops because the plumber saw a couple rifles and 500 rounds of ammo. They were making up all kinds of shit about the guy traveling to the middle east and having kiddie porn and all. I'm liable to wind up in Gitmo if they see how much ammo I have. |

Usually, when people start talking about buying a condo or townhouse these days, I tell 'em to wait, that now isn't the time, that prices have yet to come down.
In this case, I'd make an exception. As bad as an HOA could be, none of them can announce that they're going to walk through your home "inspecting" it. Personally, I owuldn't do dick about the 25,000 rounds of ammo. Let 'em wonder. |

25,000? I don't know what you need more... therapy or a forklift.
Seriously, what kind of ammo? Do you reload for a club or something? Take as much as you can to a friends house. Put as much as you can in your car. Jam as much as you can in dresser-drawers. Spread a layer out between the matress and the box spring. Hide as much as you can behind food on the shelves. Send all the .45acp and 9mm Luger (and 8mm Mauser) to me. Put a bunch in generic boxes, like apple boxes and shit, and mark the boxes "Record collection." |

Throw a blanket over your ammo stash. Tell your property manager you want to be there for this inspection. Follow them around during the inspection.

I'll have to find the actual lease, but I know that they have the right to come in with written notice for maintenence realated activites, like to let in an exterminator or to fix a broken pipe. |

I wouldnt be worried, if there is nothing in your contract banning ammo or firearms then I wouldn't worry. I would make an ammo fort out of it and see what the inspector says.

There is no way on earth I'd ever allow my landlord or any maintenance people in my home without me being present. Damn the man! Plus, the dog would make them wet the pants if they even tried to get in the door.

$29.99 That's the price of Uhaul's smallest truck, per day. Rent one. Get a couple ARFCOM brothers to help you move the stuff. Use cardboard boxes from McDonalds, labeled "books" I did this once a year in Boulder, Colorado while I was in Law school, although I only had 5000 rounds or so, so I could fit mine in the trunk. |

behind cannned goods in cabinets"front"all the cans and boxes and put some behind it. Lay it on top of your mattress in an even layer and throw 3-4 blankets/comforters over it behind books on bookshelves. Turn over your sofa and put some on the ground underneath the empty part in the middle of most sofas. Underneath a pile of laundry in the laundry room. Etc Above all make sure your place is neat and tidy on the day of, they are looking for structural and mechanical problems as well as people who are trashing the place and not taking care of pets -taking out trash etc. if your palce is neat and tidy they will be in and out pretty fast a cusory walk through of each room and maybe a quick closet peek. Take a large dell computer monitor box place it in a closet load it up with ammo -seal it and place shoes and stuff on it like its been there forever, like you are keeping it to move a monitor in --that sort of thing. If anyone pushes on it or remarks on its weight --"yeah that one was bad when I got it dell set a new on and I meant to ship that back but..." stuff like that. High in that back on closet shelves with umbrellas and "closet" stuff in front of it. back of dresser drawers with clothes left in front and on top of ammo (--you need some clothes for the "laundry" pile andyway) I bet I could hide 500000 rounds in your apartment givena few hours. it wouldnt stand a full on search but the casual observer would never see it unless they were pokin through my underwear drawer. If you can find out when speficlly they are comming arrange to be there. show up at the door in a robe and PJ's --look sick tell them "no problem" but you hope its not going to take long cause you are ill and feel like s--t--need to get back to bed etc. |

Where I live, the law is to give
the tenant 24 hour notice before entering. I had an evaluation for property value in my duplex not too long ago. Closets were not looked into,but not saying these guys won't. Is it in ammo cans? Just get some boxes. |

Best strategy is to either get it out or store it in a safe inside, locked. Will it fit in one of those $80 stack on safes? If so, lock it. If you try to hide it and the maintenance guy gets wise, his "tip" call plus the "hidden" nature is probably going to get a warrant sworn out for probable cause. Not saying its right, just saying it is. |

If you have time, you can get a tall, four drawer file cabinet with a lock. Get two, they're cheap. Just don't label the drawers by caliber. he
I also made it clear where ever I was that nobody was allowed inside without me being there. If its a multi-unit complex, especially, they usually keep all the keys on a board for anyone to grab, make copies, etc. Not on my watch. ETA: I've never heard of yearly inside inspections. I'd move. |

Stuff as much as you can under the bed, and lay a blanket over it. Or, go and get some of those plastic containers they sell at walmart, and fill them full, and stuff under bed.
As someone else said, put it under the comforter to your bed, and lay some clothes/blankets over it. They probably won't check everything, I know they don't here in my apartment(and we are not supposed to have guns), they just check stuff like smoke detectors, blinds, any obvious messed up stuff. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. |

Hide the ammo in the closet behind boxes full of old magazines like comic books, Pop Mechanics etc. Tell the manager if your collection of priceless comic book collection is touched, you will have their asses.

That's what I was thinking. Hide it in plain sight. Make a stack about 22 inches high x 36 inches wide x 5 or 6 feet long, throw a blanket over the top, put some books, tv remote, an empty beer can etc on top. Do the same on both ends of your sofa (end tables). At the foot of your bed, etc. As long as you are there watching them, you should be fine. Gene |

Don't hide it. Dump about 4000 rounds loose on the bed, dresser, and floor. Fill 2 or 3 kitchen drawers up with the largest calibers you have, and leave them partially open
Oh, and splash a gallon of fake "Karo syrup and red food color" blood all over the bathroom and tub. Smear some on your wife beater for effect while your at it.

Actually, yes, they can. Part of just about EVERY rental agreement known to man. Law allows them the right to enter your apartment for annual and/or 'safety & health concern' inspections as long as they provide written, 24 or 48 hour notice. At least in the majority of states. They can't just show up any old time, but rental laws DO include this. You MUST have been notified though, so if you never got the notice  legally they can't enter. Of course, it's hard to get away with that as they'll generally just send you another one, registered mail, etc. |

Well, now that you have it stashed, what I do is keep my ammo in the corner and throw my dirty clothes over it. When my landlord or maintenance idiot comes over all they see is a pile of dirty clothes. Oh and I try to leave some undies with skidmarks showing on top to keep them from snooping

I vote ammo fort..
My landlord has been over here a few times to fix some misc issues. He has made mention of my phone booth sized gun safe sitting in the living room and the ammo crates in the closet. His only question (while pointing at the safe). "What kind of cool toys live in there?" Next time he comes over, I might make an ammo fort. Retired Marine, nice guy and fellow tradesman. Never had a problem with him. |
