I guess Congress really hates strippers, except for John McCain. He may be a liberal douchebag, but he does support tipping strippers with large denomination bills.

Where does the hive stand on the $1 bill going away?

(CNN) – If Congress passes the COINS Act replacing the $1 paper bill for a coin, the U.S. government may be able to save billions in printing costs at the expense of a little more jangle in the average consumers' pockets. But what about the strippers?

That's what The Hill newspaper asked one of the bill's co-sponsors, Sen. John McCain, in a piece published Thursday. The question came from a separate 2011 story where the publication suggested strippers could suffer in a bill-less economy, with G-strings and garter belts far less accommodating of cold metal.

...

"Then I hope that they could obtain larger denominations," McCain reportedly told The Hill.

So because Americans soundly rejected the golden dollar, they have to make it mandatory.

Yeah, that's government. Ideas so good they need to be mandatory.

Dollars are going to be as valuable as change soon. Why not?

Fuck cheap metal coins.

Make $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 coins out of SILVER. Get rid of everything under $1. It's not like anything is cheap anymore...

In Germany strip bars have ATMs and exchanges in the front where you can turn euros into "stripper dollar".  On your way back out, you get any left over dollars changed back.   There is never a markup and it is always 1:1, at least all the places I have been there.  The sandwich truck guy that drove around base would take them instead of euros as well.

Exactly. It would be just like going to the casino.
Problem solved.

Why are liberals so enamored with the idea of a dollar coin?
I mean shit, we have tried this what, 3-4 times now and it is always a big, fat, fail.

They just cannot stand that we don't have a dollar coin and all the eursocialist countries do.

High speed rail, nationalized healthcare, a dollar coin and soccer = shit that Euros have that Americans don't want.

On another note having used $1 and $2 coins, they fucking suck! I would rather have a $1 bills.

save billions in printing costs

Your inability to accept change (pun intended) is going to cost billions.

No wonder our budget can't get balanced when something as simple as this to save money gets soundly rejected.

in fact, I was just on the mint's website to buy some because they've got free shipping right now so I figured 1:1 like the last $250 worth I picked up

nope... they have a fucking premium on them

I lived in England when the went from Pound notes to coins.  It sucked.  You ended up with so many coins in your pocket, you had to put some on each side to keep from walking in circles.

I hope you guys keep your $1 bills. I can't stand £1 coins. They weigh my wallet down with all the bulk so I just put them in a drawer when I get home everyday.

On the plus side I went though the drawer last week and found £48 in 1 pound coins

Peek in cash drawers at places like Dunkin when you get your change. I asked the clerk if I could get the half I saw there in my change, she said "sure" and handed it to me.

You should have given them Canadian Tire dollars.

So what if they go to $1 coins? It won't be a problem for the strippers. If you got a coin, put it in the coin slot. If not, have them turn around and swipe your debit card.

Dollar coins suck, and everyone agrees.  There are better ways to save money than by doing something that nobody wants.  It would be worthwhile if it weren't for the fact that the money saved would quickly be spent on something else that nobody wants.

***sigh***
Link Posted: 7/26/2013 7:59:06 AM EDT
It isn't hard to get the public to accept dollar coins. Just mint them out of a metal that has value and there will be strong demand for them. Oh, that's right... we can't mint those kinds of coins for circulation because our government has devalued our currency. Maybe John McCain should focus on that first, instead of coming up with another worthless clad coin that no one will want.
Link Posted: 7/26/2013 7:59:12 AM EDT
I liked the pound coins.  Buying small stuff, you didn't have to get out your coins and your wallet.

Did you ever get coins as change?  I never did.

FWIW, I think we should switch to coins.  Saves a lot of money.  Frankly, though, I hardly ever carry cash anymore.

AS for strippers... easy..... strip clubs will sell scrip.  I went to a club in Utah where you HAD to use scrip because of local laws.

I question your everyone agrees stat since I don't agree.

And your logic for not saving the money is also flawed.  Why bother saving anything then?

Some vending machines and some subway transit things still give golden dollars as change. I hate them. Stupid clerks don't even know they're legal tender, which results in an argument.

I support this.

Just picturing the typical droopy-pants backwards-cap EBT-waver here entirely losing their pants and stumbling in a crash of hundreds of pennies. That just made my day.
