We all know blacks have this position sewn up, but who was the best *white* guy to play the position?

Craig James? Paul Hornung?

Riggins was better than Csonka. Csonka was better than Bleier. Rocky is an American hero, however. Played with half a foot due to injuries sustained in Vietnam.

Barring knee injuries, Gale Sayers would have been so far ahead of anyone who ever played the position, people would have no idea who Jim Brown was.

That's how good Gale Sayers was. Barry Sanders moves. Eric Dickerson Speed. Walter Payton balance.

For three or four years, no one came close.

Riggins had better type hype than Csonka.

Riggins was lucky enuf to fall into the right time to take advantage of a sharp increase of TV coverage of the NFL.

I'm not saying Csonka was better - I'm just saying don't fall victim to media hype for an EXCELELNT back named John Riggins.

John Riggins:

Zonka!!!!!!  shared the backfield with Mercuy Morris (greased lightning but never knew where the hell he was running) and didn't get as many attempts as Riggins did to run. In other words, the Redskins running game was centered around Riggins. Where the Dolphins had a much better attack plan with Morris (outside speed) and Csonka ( inside brute force).

Your right it isn't even close. Csonka = Team player   Riggins = "The Star"

Maybe because Riggo could CARRY that Redskins offense when necessary.

Riggo was a badass, and a freakshow.

Love that guy.
