We all know blacks have this position sewn up, but who was the best *white* guy to play the position?
Craig James? Paul Hornung? |
Riggins? He was Native American correct? Is Native American considered "white"?
I'm a native American and I am white.
Native American because I was born here. here we go. IBTL |
WTF is a Native American? If you mean INDIANS SAY INDIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Or aborigine Websters: "an inhabitant especially as contrasted with an invading or colonizing people" American Aborigine Oh and +1 on Riggins. That guy was good! |

We're talking Football here. Go play with your dolls. |
Not sure who...but I can guarantee you he was running fast because there was a bunch of black guys running after him.

Now that's damn funny! |

1.) Posting derogatory comments of a racial, religious, or sexual nature.

[nflmodeon]After further review, the ruling on the field is overturned. Wobblin Goblin First Down!
Take a picture, boys, this doesn't happen very often! |
Walt Garrison...not only the greatest WRB, but the greatest Dallas Cowboy and a real live cowboy.
Riggins was better than Csonka. Csonka was better than Bleier. Rocky is an American hero, however. Played with half a foot due to injuries sustained in Vietnam. |
I'm sure they could have grabbed onto Riggins jersy and been dragged downfield too, They didn't call him "the diesel" for nothing |
Did you ever see Cszonka play??? |
Was Piccolo any good? I remember the story and seen the movie but I don't remember if he was "great" while he played.
I've seen footage. I've seen career statistics. Riggins by a mile. |
He could have been but Gale Sayers was in league all his own. |
Barring knee injuries, Gale Sayers would have been so far ahead of anyone who ever played the position, people would have no idea who Jim Brown was. That's how good Gale Sayers was. Barry Sanders moves. Eric Dickerson Speed. Walter Payton balance. For three or four years, no one came close. |
Riggins had better type hype than Csonka. Riggins was lucky enuf to fall into the right time to take advantage of a sharp increase of TV coverage of the NFL. I'm not saying Csonka was better - I'm just saying don't fall victim to media hype for an EXCELELNT back named John Riggins. |

Redskins ! Riggo is a Redskins! .... ... Washington Redskins that is. |
Career stats:
Larry Csonka: 8,081 rushing yards 106 receptions 68 touchdowns John Riggins: 11,352 rushing yards 250 receptions 116 touchdowns This isn't even close, bud. |
17-0 |
Damn straight! |
If that's the standard, then even Barry Sanders and Walter Payton don't measure up. |
I've only been watching football since '88 and I can't think of ANY. Are they any currently?
Perhaps Allstott, but he's been pretty quiet for a couple of years now. |

Zonka!!!!!! shared the backfield with Mercuy Morris (greased lightning but never knew where the hell he was running) and didn't get as many attempts as Riggins did to run. In other words, the Redskins running game was centered around Riggins. Where the Dolphins had a much better attack plan with Morris (outside speed) and Csonka ( inside brute force). Your right it isn't even close. Csonka = Team player Riggins = "The Star" |
Hugh McElhenny - NY Giants 50's & 60's. Also Craig James - New England Patriots
Maybe because Riggo could CARRY that Redskins offense when necessary. Riggo was a badass, and a freakshow. Love that guy. |
