I'm a real fan of the Genesis "Second Out" double live album but this morning, for the first time in a while, was listening to Deep Purple's "Made in Japan" and this has to be, considering the quality of the concert and the quality of the recording itself, given the technology available at the time, THE ABSOLUTE BEST.

There's other band I really enjoy-Yes, Beach Boys, Rippingtons-and their live albums SUCK.

Sound off. What's your favorite LIVE album and WHY?

They had that "Who, Live at the Isle of Wight" on High Definition TV this last week.  It's good that it's out on DVD because it looks like the crowd was so stoned they likely don't remember it.

Keith Moon was definitely the driver of the band onstage.  You couldn't see his feet but that must be where he gets a lot of his sound.

I saw the thread topic, and thought - Genesis Seconds out...

Then I read the post...unreal. I though I was the last Genesis fan alive. I'm in my office, and I have both Genesis - Three Sides Live ( playing) as well as Seconds Out on my desk.

I have to say Seconds out takes the live category as a winner, but Frampton Comes Alive is a close second.

and .. What - no one for Cheap Trick Live at Budokan?

Good stuff listed here, including some I've completely forgotten/overlooked.

Iron Maiden, Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult.

The memories come flooding back.

Thanks guys.

One I forgot: Mothers of Invention "Just another Band from LA" with Billy the Mountain.

I actually prefer studio tracks.  I can understand the lyrics, the use of recreation pharmaceuticals was more regulated, it's what I grew up listening to on the radio.

And The Greatest Band You Never Heard, 2 cd set from his 11 piece band in the late 80s. Cleveland show almost made me follow them around.

While not with an audience, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is an all-time great where each track was done in one take as a group.

Not an album, but Zeppelin's How The West Was Won is fantastic!

 Amen, Bro...there's Zappa...and then there's everything else.

Glad to see some Zappa fans.  Did not agree with some of his political views but his music was unbelievable.  I still have about 25 Zappa albums.  My favorite albums are the ones that had Flo and Eddie with them.  My mother knew him quite well in the early 60's when he lived in the area and had his recording studio in Cucamonga.

The last time I saw Rollins Band, was without a doubt one of the best shows I have ever seen. That guy sweats blood he works so hard on stage, and the music absolutely tore the earth in half it was so powerful. GREAT show.
