That's a fairly good representation of what the majority of ethnic Russians are saying in my view.  Although Putin didn't really say anything new, he clearly laid out his ideology: Ukrainians, Belarussians, Moldovans, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians - these are all "made up" distinctions in his view.  All of those people are Russian and should be under the tender care of Mother Russia whether they like it or not.

So, you can see Putin working the non-NATO countries first; but he's clear that his view applies to NATO members.  Also, kind of strangely given the resources locked up there, you don't really see him emphasizing any historical ties with former USSR central asian republics or trying to expand there.

Everything you just wrote applies to men of Moscow and St. Petersburg as well, and that's about 16% of Russian military aged males. On top of that, 400,000 of Russian males who were willing or could be conned or forced to fight are pushing daisies, and that number is growing by 700-1000 every day.

Well, assuming Russia has the capability to assimilate Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus, that's about 49 million more. Past that, they'll trigger NATO, and they aren't going to find anything worth triggering NATO over because that means those European countries will not have to take Russia on alone.  And they'll need most of those extra conscripts to keep order in the places they seized.

Beyond that, you're getting into basic will-to-fight stuff. My take is Europe and the U.S. aren't as mild as they play it.
