I've had 5 GSDs, and I know I'm gonna get roasted over this, but my Poodle, yes a French Poodle, was my best friend, my best protector and my smartest dog ever.

I miss him every day.

Forgot to mention that Poodles don't SHED HAIR.

I've had blue ticks, blue heelers, GSD.  Always thought the heelers were the best ever... until my wife dragged a rescue, supposedly "golden doodle" home.  He looks more golden than doodle until you shave him.  I tried to dislike him and call him a useless piece of shit.  But dang if he isn't the most loyal best dog ever - especially with kids.  He refuses to chase wildlife out of the yard but he also does not chase cows when they graze close to the house either... so he was permitted to stick around.  I have to try hard to pretend to not like him.

The GSD is by far the best dog breed I've ever owned.  They are totally cute and playful with their family, and they will gladly defend their family till their last breath.  And the have the size, speed, and strength to be effective.

They are strong, intelligent, and loyal. They love to play and have fun, but they are also amazingly effective at guarding a household.

IMHO, no breed is all around better than the GSD

I am partial to St Bernards.

The two I have now are very good protectors.

The two I had previously were less so.

I'm coming around to that position. All the German breeds.

I had a Dobie/Dane that was the best dog ever.

We rescued a Rott/Lab that looks just like her a few months ago and she's got real potential. Fur isn't as nice, but she's wicked smart and totally devoted.

We've had Heelers, Aussies and my mom has a Doodle that's pretty cool, but it's the German lines that really appeal to me.

If I had to pick a purebred it'd probably be a Dobermann though, not too big, not too furry, and everything I want in a dog.

I will admit that GSDs are up there in the top 3, but too much hair for top spot. My vote goes to Dobermans.
Same qualities. Fun, loyal, smart,  protective, but without the hair.

I'm partial to Australian Shepherds myself.

Perfect size, very little shedding. They can be full throttle one minute, and chilling out by the fire the next.

They're also people pleasers, and smart enough to know what you want from them.

But yeah, GSD's are cool too

I dunno, they have history of a lot of bites and hurting innocents. Did you know they're even trained to attack humans? I think they should all be gassed and their owners charged.

Heelers, red or blue are good dogs but they have a deep herding instinct that they will never fully suppress.

Blues are better if you have cool seasons and reds are better for extreme heat.

Border Collie, too damn smart even to be called a dog. A two and a half year old me was saved twice by our dog.

You have to have them something to do at least half the day or they will find it on their own.

excellent dogs in my experience they are smarter than heelers but are also more work oriented.

Like anything, dogs can be used for both good or bad intent. It just depends on how they're trained.

In the case of the ouija dogs, they're just doing as they were trained. Don't blame them. It's all they know.

I've had a few other dogs over the years, mutts mostly, parents had a lab, all great dogs....
I've never had a more loyal dog that has my back like no other though.  Not only that, but
he's got me doing things with him I never thought I'd ever do with a dog.
I had my doubts when we first got him, but now I can't imagine life without him.  Best friend and protector I could ask for.
Not for everyone though.  I tell anyone thinking of getting one to think long and hard about it, and understand what you're getting into.

I'm kinda partial towards my chihuhahua too. Can be a nasty little dog, but he's amazingly loyal and cuddly, a hilarious clown show, and quite protective in his own right of the house.
