going for a 1993 Somalia car15 build and need your help (Page 84 of 90)
Here is mine, its not 100% clone accurate but its close enough for me.  " />Specs: Full Colt 6520 upper (was unfired and like new) Full Colt 6920 lower Colt/Arms Weaver Carry Handle Rail Hammy CAR15 Cheek Riser Aimpoint 9000SC Leupold Scope Rings TDI rail for front sight Surefire Mini Scout B5 CAR15 stock John Masen CAR15 stock pad B5 LSO grip Took me a while to get it to this point. I originally had a Streamlight rail on the handguard but didnt care for it as it interfered with hand placement. The Surefire M14/M16 mounts are very hard to find and the Chinese made ones are eh....(I also dont like pads and wires). The Surefire M25 FSB mounts are crazy now - like $350 if you can even find one.. So used a TDI fsb rail mount with a current production Surefire mini Scout light. The TDI rail is glass reinforced polymer so heat wont be transmitted to the light. I prefer it over the original Surefires which have gotten very expensive. |

Just waiting on the Shekkin light to come in and I'll be all pieced together. For the sling setups, I know it's more likely user preference for the sling itself but for the mounts, what are the paracord pieces that wrap around the sight block and to the stock? |

Took some pics for another thread Top to bottom 12.5 Centurion barrel w/ custom collar and aem5 12.5 dd barrel w/ ops 16th (aem4) 14.5 colt barrel w/ m4    The progression of my clone build. Started with the dd barrel around 2008 or 9 trying to do a hodgepodge mk18 / bhd upper. Built a new upper around the aem5 (more of a movie build) a few years ago. Ended up with an m4 when railscales did a batch and built a new upper with a paq 4 and Malakoff light. Not clone correct i know, but way more effective. Anyone have a link for legit od 550 cord? I got that tan stuff off Amazon and it's got a shine to it that nothing i ever saw in the army had. |

If I cared more I’d do a loop of 550 through the FS tower and then use the little metal thingy to connect the sling to the 550. And you can never go wrong with having a roll of green 550 around

 Coming down to the last steps..... going to put some tape over the logos on the optic mount and just waiting on the Shekkin light and still figuring out what to do with the sling. Been a fun project and looking forward to getting her out and let loose. |

| What kind of paint are you guys using on your cans for your Gordy builds? I have a FDE AEM5 now, but want to get a M4 can and build the upper properly, so I'm debating if I want to wait for a FDE M4 can or get it in grey and paint it. Just don't want it smoking like a camp fire every time I shoot it. |

You can go just in front of the FSB, else as some have done with Chinesium mounts in the past, cut it slightly and go between the FSB's "legs." Might not get much of a swing arc there, but anywhere between 4 and 8 is doable. |

I just used spray paint, let it cure after you spray it and then take it to the range and get it hot but not too hot , let it cool and repeat a few times and once it’s super dry I can’t had an issue with it burning off. I have close to 1000 through this one without repainting. It’s wearing off in spots but I think I like the worn paint. Attached File |

Thanks to @subpar and @reccerecon for their assistance with guidance and parts. Another thanks to TNTE for their assistance with some specifics as well, great guys to work with. Originally intended on doing a Gordon clone but we can't have suppressors in MA so that idea went out the window. After some indecisiveness ended up running with the 10.5 Blood Diamond concept as that was the length the lower is Form 1'd for. Just waiting on an OG alluminum stock to come in and maybe a true ARMS mount but for now, just deciding on a sling setup and I think she's complete. Looking forward to not having sub-artic temps right not to get a good range day in and zero.
