Honestly I just stuck with the BCA rail. It's a heavy pig for what it is, but on the plus side It doesn't flex much at all.

Matrix Arms will work.

Dirty Bird Industries will also work. It's basically the old Expo Arms rail, but it doesn't have anti rotational tabs.

If you are looking for handguards without any type of anti-rotation device, then the field is wide open.  Anti-rotation tabs that will play well with the BCA upper is a much smaller list, I think.

Wow, your shooting a 308 in a pistol? Like how it looks. I would have done a 300BO for better recoil management. What size bullet are you planing to shoot? Can you post your build list with cost?

Shouldered 308 pistol... Ouch.  I have a Remington Model 600 with a 16" barrel that kick like a mule and has a lot more heft than that thing.

That looks really light weight.  Leaving out the BCG, barrel, muzzle device & suppressor really keeps the weight down!

But, it all seriousness I'll be curious to see how that comes out.

It's hard not to build and build again.  I've got another one of these uppers just sitting around ... in case.  In retrospect, I should have bought one at a time, but NOOOO, I HAD to get the FREE SHIPPING!   And I know, since I have it, sooner or later, I'll pick a caliber and get a barrel and bolt, then we'll go down that road one more time.

I swear my .308 bolt gun suppressed with subs is quieter than this with same can

I tried 220gr federal suppressor and 208gr. The 220 was quieter but I thought still louder than my 18” bolt action .308 with same can.

All the hype on YouTube and forums stated that 300 blackout is so quiet suppressed  on short barrels (what it was designed for). The whole purpose of it. People stating it’s Hollywood quiet.

Mas Defense is GTG

Looks like an Aero Precision style BAR Rail. Those are pretty nice for tucking a suppressor into. Not sure if the MLOK slots will be usable though.

What barrels are you guys using?  Do you source a no gas port barrel, or just block the port?  I'm wondering if there will be a small increase of sound with gas escaping the port if it is just blocked.

Regular barrel.
When you buy a BCA upper it comes with a "sleeve" for the gas port (they use a regular barrel as well).  That sleeve is basically a low pro gas block without the top part.

I found a pic of one online.

You can do the same thing by taking a low-pro gas block and mounting it backwards.  That is what I did for my .22LR conversion upper years ago as well.

Also, check the EE.   I grabbed a couple of cheap used low-pro gas blocks for like $8 each to mount backwards.

Edit - I just looked, they are still available.  I won't give a link, but I'll say that the they are 2 for $16 shipped.

Regular barrels and just a old gas block installed backward.  If it leaks try another gas block for better fit.  Don't worry about the sound, that's at the bottom of a list of dozens of other variables that need figured out first.

My 308. 16" BA barrel. 175SMK titegroup sub load. Single digit sds and inch to sub inch accuracy. Also one of the quietest loads ive found.
Bear Creek Bc10 308 subsonic rounds
I'm not here because I make sound financial decisions.

A shaft collar is an alternative to the backwards gas block or BCA part.

[Last Edit: AL1EN][Edited] [#35]
BCA’s gas port collars are crude and rough. I just get gas blocks and turn them backwards also. Working on my third build now.

To be honest I use the least amount of BCA parts as possible.

I put together a 450 bushmaster using the FM ranch lower and took it out this weekend. 450 is the smoothest loading round out of all my builds. Dont know if the bigger round that helps guide into the chamber better but its my favorite. I used a Faxon 16” with just a thread protector and hornady subsonics.

Here is my latest build using the A&K AKB-23 dedicated bullpup lower designed to pair with the BRN-180.  I made some modification and here are the results.  I also have been in contact with the manufacturers about my modifications and they are looking to make the modifications as a standard part of their offerings allowing the use of the BCA bolt action and the Uintah bolt action. I love this lower and it is a better option than what I have done using the Reap or the Triad from my other builds.  The picture showing the weight, the barrel is a heavy or bull profile, and it has a heavier hand guard.   This would bring the weight below 6 pounds easily.

So what has been the accuracy of these? I was looking at a 16" in 300blk.

It really depends on the round, barrel and bolt.  The last time at the range as we were getting ready to leave, with my uncles set up, I was able to print a .66, three shot group take that for what it is worth.  will it consistently due that??  He bought an X-caliber barrel and matching bolt.  They have a one moa guarantee with their matching bolt.

I just bought the cheapest bolt-action 5.56 upper they had!

$179.95 on sale…then used a 10% coupon and free shipping promotion.

I’m going to swap the bolt and action on the old BCA side-charger .300blk I have.

So I got my straight pull 10.5” .300blk rifle converted over to the BCA bolt action receiver.  Here’s my port blocking solution, for those with the means:

- I measured my Ballistic Advantage gas journal at .7490
- Bored out a M18 hex nut ($5) to .0010-.0015 undersize
- Shaved off the hex nut flats
- Heated it up to 500-600F with a propane torch
- Dropped it onto the barrel and it shrinks to a permanent perfect seal.

Why stainless nut? stainless resists flame cutting very well and the much stronger harder 4150v barrel steel means the stainless ring takes most of the strain/stress.

If someone wants the BCA set screw gas port blocker I didn’t use, let me know.

Well they pulled all the original version bolt actions from the site and released rev2.  Redesigned upper and bolt.  Now a 2 lug bolt that I would bet requires a proprietary barrel extension.

I'd literally been trying to buy another for the past week due to card issues. FML

That is a bit of a bummer.
I like most of the upgrades, but if it can't use standard barrels, it is kinda useless for builders.  I don't want to be stuck with BCA barrels.

That was my first thought, and I am glad I have several of the original model.  My favorite thing about them was the cross compatibility of so many components with that of standard ar15 parts.

I am sure the new version is smoother with less "glitch" but offers less cross compatibility.

Mine are purely tinker toys for paper punching and they do that just fine for me.

It's mind blowingly stupid. Who's going to spend the money to have a custom barrel spun up if they don't want the truck axle bc barrel that looks like it was chambered by Michael J Fox?
They turned an budget industry innovation into a high point carbine.

It's a one piece bolt too, so no more easy swap of calibers either.

Not gonna lie, I went straight to gun broker and bought the only bc10 bolt action on there.  Price was $20 higher but shipping was half of what BC charges.

I liked that 16" 308 so much that I'm retiring my 6.5 16" bolt gun to build a 6.5 Bc bolt for deer hunting.   It's a lightweight compact package.
