'Anyone willing to give a poor oppressed Canadian an idea of how good/bad the prairie dog population is in and around Wall and/or Vivian SD...?

Our Colorado trip was ruined by mother nature and her rains... 'Looking for a redo.

I just got back from around the murdo area this weekend (May 16-17) sucked ass.  Weather was too rainy and windy.  The pups aren't up yet and 90% of the pd towns we checked out had been posioned out and completely wiped out.  We only got about 10 minutes of shooting in with four dead prairie dogs.  The skies then proceeded to open up and hit us with a deluge of rain and hail.  It was a long 1.5 mile hike back to the damn truck.  Also as a PSA, the dirt roads in SD turn to grease when they are wet.  The don't believe in replacing gravel.

Lots and lots of PD towns posioned out.  It seems that there has been a sharp increase in the poisoning of prairies dog towns by the ranchers.  Does anybody have an explanation?  Is it crop prices, live stock prices, or more effective posioned on the market?

Like I said it suck ass.

Don't like hearing this. We leave the 28th, same area, hope our spot hasn't been poisoned. And I hope the sun shines!

With any luck it dries out for you.  They have been getting massive rains the past few weeks.  There were about a dozen dog towns we couldn't get to check them out due to the conditions so maybe they are still around.   But poisoning and the plague have been decimating them.  When was the last time you were there?

Btw, if you stay in Mudro they have a new resturant called the rusty spur and it is pretty good.

It may be financially advantageous to run cattle rather than charge shooters.

Report back on how you do.

Got there thur afternoon, rain late but we managed about 2 hrs of shooting.

Fri, total rain out, sat at our motel.

Sat, perfection! Sunshine and 62*. Lots of dogs, tons of pups, had a full day of shooting. We were out on the prairie a good 13 hrs.

I burned through about 700 rds, fun was had by all!
