A 6920 at a Walmart?

I never thought I'd see the day.

Cool.

Hmm. Interdasting. I did not know that Colt had a "factory seconds" assembly facility in China.

This warrants further investigation.

i want you guys to read two old but good articles.... then tell me if you would buy a Colt or any other gun from wal-mart.

http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmart.html

http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/102/open_snapper.html

with the recent shift in Bushmaster it's easy to see what's going on in the industry. i would urge anyone to take a standard Bushy from 5+ years ago and compare it to one from today. there is an instantly noticeable difference in the guns, the new Bushy is strange and unfamiliar. it now suddenly costs less too. it's weird that it can cost less, get sold in wal-mart and some how still be the same quality.... seriously? Americans aren't that dumb are..... n/m

i've been in other industries that have gone the wal-mart way. i've seen first hand the shift in quality some products undergo before being sold in big box stores. if it's being sold at wal-mart, lowes, home cheapo or one of the other big players and i need it... i look for it elsewhere. pay attention to the EXACT sku number, look at any difference in the model number, a dash, dot, number or letter.

example: we sold Delta faucets - the Delta we sold was not the Delta you got a lowes. it was difficult for us to even get parts for lowes Deltas. the Delta that you buy at a real building supply place is different than what you get at the box places. take one apart sometime... you'll see.

you think this same thing isn't going on with Colt? the rifle may still be regular Colt quality, for now, it's not going to stay that way.

I didn't read the articles, but I'm sure what you're saying about some products not being up to snuff in Wal-Mart-type stores is true.  However, do you really think a company like Colt would put their name and reputation at stake by putting lower-quality products out there?

I'm not a Colt fanboy - the only Colts I've ever touched were M16s at BCT - but I do think a company like that wouldn't want to shoot themselves in the foot by selling subpar stuff at Wal-Mart just to make a quick buck.  Get a bad rep, and it can hurt their government contracts, even if the stuff being sold to Uncle Sam is still of the highest quality.

I'm thinking if it's there, it's the real thing.  Just my opinion, YMMV, etc. etc.

I don't think Colt really gives a shit about its consumer market. Seriously. I get the distinct impression their primary market is Military and LE, and beyond that it doesn't matter.

I would agree with you. Colt has never focused on civilian/consumer sales (if we're talking about black rifles) and still doesn't. If you've ever actually been to the Colt factory, I think you'd agree that they don't really have the ability (economically or practically) to set up a separate "cheap Chinamart" product line even if they wanted to do so. They're not making particle board furniture or light bulbs in China and they have a complicated and somewhat antiquated, unionized factory. The company in general has historically been slow to evolve and change.

Also, while I do think there is a tremendous amount of garbage in Walmart, not everything at Walmart is a cheap sub-model of the same manufacturer's product. That may be the case with things like consumer electronics, appliances, etc. but things like Mobil 1 motor oil are no different than the product at higher priced retailers.

Fairmont WalMart has 'em.  I stopped specifically just to see.

Guy behind the counter was telling some poor guy that they are (Bushy, Sig, and Colt, all three were in the cabinet) made with the same parts, just have different rollmarks

They rolled in right after the regular bushy AR's did.  Hell, Oct last year maybe before?

That said, if I was in the market for one, I'm not sure wal-mart would be where I would buy, lots of other option out there now.

Mind you my first AR was a Bushy, but it was bought back in 06' when they were half way decent. My other is a build of my own, and I think if I want another it will be a build.  Especially when I have a lower manufacturer about 30min drive from me

glad you looked, I'm not making a trip into the death hole to find out.

besides we have guns from KAC, LaRue, LWRC, Spikes, Stag, LMT and a few others at the shop. with DD, BCM, Core15 and others on order I don't worry about walmart selling dpms, sig, bushy and colt.... I didn't worry about those brands to begin with.

+1.  I was really impressed when I walked down that aisle in the Idaho Falls Wal-Mart and saw all the big blue drums.

And I agree about not buying guns at Wal-Mart.  I bought a stainless 10/22 at a Wal-Mart back in the early 90s and didn't appreciate being perp walked out of the store.

i purchased a 10/22 from walmart as well and had no such walk. the guy at the counter told me my gun would be waiting for me at the customer service desk when i left. they had it locked in the security room when i was done shopping and no one walked me out. the flip side of this is places like dicks sporting also "walks" you out.

Yep, most of the big box stores walk you out. I'm not sure, but Cabelas may also....

Blackheart international in Phillippi.

Last show I seen them at they were $135 I think.  They are billet, and have the WV logo on the side.

I want one some day, but I'm afraid how much I'll spend on another build

Yeah, it sure is.  I'll be there Sat. morning.  Probably won't be looking for anything, unless I find a good buy.
