What type of buttstock is this? and why is it so rare?

Another question. Is it possible to install Tall sights on a metric FAL? and is does Ironwood make the early buttstocks that dont attach by the furrel? (metric)

My Israeli light-barrel, built on an Entreprise Arms 'ISRAEL MATCH' Type I receiver. The rifle was built from a kit found at Knob creek back in 1997 or 1998. The rear sight is a Canadian C2 1000 meter disc sight, as is the stripper clip top cover. The clip-on grenade launcher was found at KCR this past October....

It's a bit of a frankenrifle right now with the metric lower on the L1A1 upper but I like it just fine and it shoots well enough!

I have thought about doing that with mine.  What lower did you use?

Thanks,

Here are a few of my newest FAL.

It has night sights, speed trigger, and Robar NP3 finish on all moving parts to make no lubrication necessary. Carbon build up wipes off with a rag.
I love this gun.

That's beautiful.  Love the walnut-looking wood versus the standard light colored Israeli furniture; also like that it looks worn/well-used.
Link Posted: 1/10/2011 1:11:41 PM EDT
[#12]
The highlights in the wood are due to the amount of grease and grime in the wood. The left side is the standard bland(beech?) Israeli wood grain. When the kit was found the wood was almost black due to grease. The builder steamed and chemically stripped the furniture repeatedly before it quit oozing grease. It will still seep oil if left in the sun.

Left side..

IIRC the wood used by the Israelis was either gopher or chitum.

ETA- looks like it is actually beech.

I've been very very lucky with this 1971 Aussie. I found it in very good conditions, still with safety sear and full auto cam on the bolt carrier that is extremely rare here. I guess it wouldn't be legal in the US.
All the markings, broad arrow, bla bla bla are OK.

Basically I've restored the wood and made all the tricks I know to make it perform well. The chamber is VERY much oversized but I found a way to proper hand load dedicated ammo.

This is few weeks ago after my session at our pre-championship match at 300 meter. Billabong (its nick name) scored 2nd.

Standard DSA STG-58, nothing special (except that I wanted one for a decade and have one and she's MINE) posing with her Romanian friend. :)

(Romy G, wire folder, hand-rolled Tapco flat. 922r compliant, etc.)

My super-short-barreled rifle!

It's a Beglian BGS Type A lower/stock on an Entreprise Type I BGS marked upper. Should be getting the money for the barrel and build tools in the next month or so. I already want another one! (This is my first)

Great looking Australian L1A1.  We only got a few of those imported before the ban, they run some $7000 now.

Yep. It seems good. The BGS markings and serial number are pretty lightly engraved, but otherwise, everything has fit good. The top cover is pretty tight (is it supposed to be?). Only potential problem is the barrel not timing correctly, but I don't know because I don't have one yet. Finish is good, no pinholes anywhere, and the feedramps look good to me. I think I was one of the lucky few to get a good receiver.

The same Israeli I've had for 8 years now, but I found an original Izzy stock, buttplate, and 600 meter rear sight at Knob Creek last week.

For those of you who are convinced a FAL cannot shoot MOA. This has a pristine barrel and shoots sub MOA with any decent ammo I have tried..
I get MOA out of it with 12$ a box Silver Bear soft points (they are more accurate than FMJ ?). I load one round at a time with soft points because the tips get dented up from the cycling. I tipically shoot at 150 yards and get 1'' groups at that distance all the time. That would be .66 MOA or better from 100 yards.
I contribute the FAL's poor reputation for accuracy to 99% of people having old shot out barrels and don't realize it. The FAL platform is certainly able of achieving sub MOA accuracy and that is without a floated barrel !

My 14 pound monster

G-,
Very nice.  The SA ammo, I am down to two sealed and 3/4 of a pack on stripper clips––––sure miss those days.  After that I will be into my last three cases of Argy (the good Argy that came in sealed up and not floor pickings).

The barrel of my FAL pictured just below yours is 21''. Yours looks like it is around 18'' or so before the muzzle brake. I think you have a stg brake that extends back covering some of the barrel? By comparison of the 2 photos your barrel looks 20 inches or so total with the brake.
If I am totally wrong sorry for the post. Just trying to help
