Your bench looks fine to me.
If you wanted a perfectly flat surface, you could always add a sheet of plywood on top at some point. But I would probably just leave like you have it.

What about a stack of drawers under the corner of your bench with the drawers pointing to the right? Would be out of the way and you access it without ducking under the bench.
How are you for power outlets? I always feel like I need another one. |

As long as your about 10 feet away from an open flame, you should be fine.
How much the temp varies, would determine if you would want to store powder or primers in that room.
