Do they make em anywhere? or can you buy other barrels? just curious, I know nothing about makarovs just think itd be a cool compact 9mm.  How expensive is the 9x18 ammo?

the Makarov is a blow back action pistol.

It cannot survive firing ammo with pressure levels like that of 9X19.  To do so would require a vastly heavier slide.

Hence you will never see a Makarov, Walther PPK, CZ 83 or Vz82, Polish P64 etc... in anything but low pressure/low bullet weight calibers like 380, 9X18 or 32 ACP.

There have been Maks in 9x19 Nato.  They used a heavily fluted chamber that shredded brass.  The brass would deform upon firing and stick to the deeply fluted chamber allowing the high pressure 9x19 to work.

I don't know how well they worked, and I would not feel safe firing one.  I don't know if this model was ever put into mass production, or if any have been imported.

It would seem to me that it could be done though. All you really need is a ridiculously powerful recoil spring and a barrel with the chamber. Whether you would be able to actually chamber the round by racking the slide with your hands would be a different story.

What I have always wondered is why all these companies who make all these .380 pistols don't also make those models useful and chamber them in 9x18. The ammo is cheaper everywhere that I have seen it, and packs a better punch.

I remember a few years ago, there were a few folks who were on the quest for a 9.2x19mm Wildcat. Basically a Mak barrel reamed out to take the longer case and use 9x19 brass sized out to the Makarov diameter (9.2mm). The infamous FAC  replacement barrels were a popular starting point for these projects. I know of a few that were made and shot but I don't know how reliable or durable the conversion was.

The conversion seemed to be an answer searching for a question

There's a guy on Youtube who shoots 9x19mm one round at a time with the slide out of battery.

So I know it CAN be done...just shouldn't....

While 9x18mm keeps ballistics with .380 it's still priced with (and sometimes lower than) 9x19mm.
