I'm an ar guy and my girl has an sks it's getting old and I was trying to find out what parts need to be  replaced.  Mainly all the springs..  I've tried looking but not much luck when I'm not sure what to get.

My experience on these forums is that anyone who replaces *anything* on an SKS is committing heresy.

Personally, I have never had need to replace anything on any of my SKSs. I do have one that is beautifully Tapco-fucked (kept all the original furniture and did not do any mods to anything original in the process) and I see nothing wrong with doing that, but I am in the minority here.

Even so, I do agree with the hardcores that if you take proper care of an SKS, you will probably never need to replace anything. It's not like other firearms like say, a Glock, where it is wise to to a rebuild every 10k rds or so. If you take it apart and look at how it is put together, you will see why. It is a very well engineered gun.

Its all original and going to stay that way but She's had it since she was 11 and we're 35 now so I just figured the springs may be worn and need a change . Yea I've taken it apart when we got together to clean it very easy to work with .. (coming from a former usmc ordnance tech. Seen many different guns)

Maybe someone here has put enough rounds through an SKS to wear something out--I would be impressed. I'm assuming she got it from her parents. Any parent who cares enough about their 11 year old girl to give her an SKS is a pretty damn awesome parent.

You might want to give Sarco a call and ask what SKS parts wear out. If you do, please post their response.

And good on you for caring enough to maintain your lady's gun. I recently did a couple of minor updates to my wife's Glock 17 (stainless steel guide rod and recoil spring assembly plus extended slide lock. I loaned her my Glock 19 while I was working on her gun and would not give it back until I put over 1000 rds through it--took me a little less than a week. Yeah, it was a chore...

Thanks I maintain them once every couple months even if I don't shoot them.  her dad let her pick it out . And then  he handed down his gun to her out of 3 girls and 1 boy.

Email sarco Inc about sks parts got this reply.

SKS are well designed guns and do not have a lot of problems with wear on them.  However the Firing Pin Retainer does get a lot of friction from the pin continuously rubbing back and forth on it.  A defective one can cause the Firing Pin to break, so I would get a couple of these and it is always a good idea to have an extra firing pin for any gun.  The Extractor and Spring are a good piece to have an extra available too.

Please note that are replacement parts are for the Chinese model only.  Most part do not interchange.
