Picking up a good shape sks in a ati stock, but comes with a chinese stock (i believe) and want to refinish/ stain it up. What is everyone using for to get the lighter color?

Not looking for a real dark color, just something close to the norinco stock color?

Amber Shellac on the factory Catalpa is about as close as you can get.  Lay that shit on thick just like they did and it should come out similar to a Mosin refurb.

Okay, i keep hearing the amber/orange shellac, but simply those look to orangy..

I have a good sks , but just a run of the mill norinco and am looking to just make it look better.

Anyone use the tru oil stuff?

i have .. but it takes time and experience. A rookie will put way to much on and give it a glazed do nut look.

Here is an example - a salvaged 91/30 stock that was painted black.
