I bought two of these:
http://www.royaltigerimports.com/shop.html#!/~/product/id=28008033

Description from their site:
NOTE for Gunsmith Special: these do have cracked and/or broken stocks in various places, but are still very functional with good metal parts, keep in thought these are surplus firearms.

They look good on from the outside

Both stocks are crasked on the same spot.  No big deal.

Both have heavy dose of cosmoline and numbers do not match.  No big deal.

On the metal, one is in good shape but the other is badly rusted

This is rust, not cosmoline

Badly pitted

More rust

Trigger assembly

Magazine assembly after some cleaning.  It actually rusted through and there is a hole.

The firing pin was seized as well.  If I didn't check it, the gun would have gone full auto even without pulling the trigger.

The SKS's were gonna be project guns anyways, so I guess I just have to put in more elbow grease.  The badly pitted/rusted gun has been sitting in EvapoRust since last night.  By now, the blueing should have faded to gray and rust should be all gone.  I will oil it, put it together, and shoot the crap out of it.

$200 before shipping/transfer fee/background check is a lot of money for what you received.

This is C&R & I have a C&R license.  No FFL fee, no transfer fee, no background check.  So it is the price of the rifles plus shipping.

Also, the other SKS is perfect, no rust what so ever.

I just saw the C&R required on the website, but still at $200+ shipping for the condition of either with a  cracked stock to me is not a deal. You say perfect but perfect means just that, not a cracked stock with bluing loss.

This is just my .02, but I would rather spend another $100 and get a better representation of an SKS.

I think the main thing to take away from this is you knew for the most part what you were getting into and this is really all that matters in the end.

I see your point, however, all Chinese/Albania  SKS from are surplus.  Even on the $299 ones they have badly beat up wood stocks and worn finish on the metal.  Of the 4 Chinbania SKS's I've got (1 for $299, 1 for $229, & 2 are $199 gunsmith specials), the other gunsmith special has the best metal finish and least amount of wear.

All rust removed, stuck bolt fixed, it's a shooter now.  $430 shipped for 2 shooter SKSs, not too bad.

Luck of the draw. Unfortunately, yours seems to be on the bottom in terms of what I've seen from this recent batch. If you just can't stand it, take it to a gun show and sell it for what you have in it.
I received a mostly numbers matching Russian with great bluing and minimal rust

Benelli,

Can you post pictures of the gas tubes/blocks, bores and bolt faces?

I'm thinking of grabbing two of these myself as projects too, I cleaned up a pretty bad yugo recently and now it's my main plinker. I think the exterior of that "bad" sks would clean up fine with a new finish. Good job.

Got the first of my three last week.  No rust at all, in overall good condition.

The firing pin was installed upside down though.  It would have been a kaboom if it hadn't been fully stripped.

And I have never had a gun with that much cosmoline.  Touching it was touchy.

Got the other two today.  No rust on either.  Sorry you got a bad one.

It's not even bad though. Good stuff benelli.

A little more than I would be willing to pay for that condition though, hell, my unissued yugo was 299 only a couple years ago. My first yugo was/is in good shape too and that was like 179 I think.

times done changed though.
