AK74 has been around long enough, so why are 74 mags more expensive than AKM mags?

Pure quantity, number of makers, and "relatively" newer importation of 74s compared to 47s.

not as many have hit the surplus market since they are still in use by the big eastern euro countries.

Yeah, cause there weren't a lot of 74s to use them in

I remember the $3 mag days.   Along with 50 cent HK91 mags (no mass CETME rifles available, and HK91s were $2000).

As stated above there were not many 74's when the mags hit . Hell I bought a lot and bought stacks of new East German 74 mags at $10 each. I am glad I did . Like most surplus they are usually cheapest when they first hit the streets

Yeah, I bought a bunch of surplus ones from AIM for like $8 each years ago.  Got Russian plums mostly, mixed with Bulgarian browns and blacks.  I recently went to see what they cost now and was greatly surprised.  I am proud I bought so many back then.  They must have stopped importing them or something.

There were probably twenty 47 mags built for every 74 mag if not more.  Plus most of those 74 mags were Russian and they were either destroyed as per some UN regulation or piled deep in a warehouse for WWIII.   Or maybe used to pave a road:

I swear literally no one beat ORF's prices back then. I remember paying less than $4 each for great used mags. I bought 4 dozen and a set of new mags in each color available for $25/4.
