Went to the range today and had issues with wolf ammo failing to feed. I'm not sure if it's the mags/ammo/bolt. I'm new to ak's, but pretty familiar with ar's. I didn't get any pictures of the round not feeding, but it seemed like ammo wasn't sitting high enough for the round to be picked up. The round would be at a 45 degree angle trying to feed into the barrel. It didn't happen with all of the mags.  The particular mags that we're giving me issues would seat in the magwell but had a little bit of play in every direction. Any insight is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Edit: it's a Romanian ak47 from a parts kit with a new receiver.

Almost all steel AK mags have wobble.

Side-to-side magazine wobble isn't usually a problem until the mag really starts a-floppin'. However, fore and aft rocking (in the same direction the mags go in and out) is usually minimal in factory AKs, and could definitely cause feeding issues if present to an excessive degree. Your best bet is to get or make some "dummy" rounds, remove the rifle's top cover, and observe the feed cycle with the problem mags pushed forward by hand. A loose fitting mag (fore and aft) and/or a weak magazine spring could cause failures to feed.

Sounds like the rear of the mag is sitting too low.

Hungarian mags - steel, 20 rd and 30 rd, are as good as any ever made. The 20 rds are rare right now and highly sought-after. There have been several large lots of 30 rds for sale lately. So, it is HIGHLY doubtful your problem is with the magazine. Your next move should be to try a polymer mag like a TAPCO because the rear lug could be thicker, allowing the mag catch to hold it tighter to the receiver, raising the cartridge rim into the line of travel of the bolt.. If you find that a longer mag catch allows it to use steel mags, it's probably because whoever made the thing trimmed the catch for polymer mags.

It was built from a parts kit. The catch wasn't modified by my builder but possibly changed before I got it. I had some cheap no name plastic mags that would work at all. I'm looking into a new mag catch because I can see where mine looks like it has been ground.
