I've mostly been buying up Magpul for my new AK since that's what I run across locally.  But I'm planning on a buy of 5-6 quality metal magazines (or plastic with metal lips/latch).  What's the best value?

Bought seven, three of which would not lock up.  They sent me three replacements, two of which did not lock up.  My guess is if you want to file on them here and there, they can be made to work.

I haven't heard many complaints about the Gibbs-Matra mags (especially compared to the Croatians) but if you're buying steel then there's no reason not to buy surplus. I think everybody just shipping containers full of Polish mags this week because they're popping up everywhere in every condition, from "good" to "unissued." Check Apex, AIM, and Copes as they've all been flooding my inbox with new arrivals. I haven't heard much from SGAmmo this week but I'd be shocked if Sam didn't get a shit ton of these Polish mags as well.

I'll never buy another Gibbs mag. I have 4. The BHO followers is them warped after very little use, and no longer hold the bolt open because the follower is so deformed. This happened in one range trip with all 4 mags. If you don't want the BHO feature, they may be ok.

True Yugo BHO (not the late made Croatian) mags in good condition are around for less than $12 / mag.

If you want BHO, these are a deal right now.

The Polish mags are also a no brainer for high quality East Block AK mags.
