Used Top-loading Romanian 75 rnd AK-47 drum at SGAmmo--$54.95 + shipping

These appear to be used Romanian surplus top-loading 75 round AK/RPK drums.  The price is very good, especially compared to historical prices on these.

These do have to be loaded through the top, one round at a time, but they don't rattle like the rear-loading drums do.  I love and own both styles of drums, but this is a good price on these.

Yup.  Last night it showed 15, then 30, and then today it was mostly around 130, and now the stock is much higher.  I value these equally to the rear-loading drums since they both have their advantages and disadvantages.  This is not a price I've seen for them in a while.  If you want top-loading drums, now is the time to buy it.  The serial number on the sample one really makes this appear to be surplus military drums.

Are there top loaders without serial numbers?

I picked one up last night when I was getting some ammo, glad I waited a day to pick up the ammo. This will be my first drum. I've been watching prices since summer of 2012 when they skyrocketed thanks to Batman,, waiting for them to settle.

Looks like I may have to get a rear loader to round out the set.

I noticed they were out earlier and I thought the wallet was safe back in stock now so much for that

I don't think so, but it was more of a question.  I don't recall any countries other than Russia/USSR or Romania making top-loading drums, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone chimed in that Korea made current copies out of lesser quality metal.  With the serial number on the drum, it would imply that it is in fact military surplus from the time of the Cold War and so it would have to be either Romanian or Russian.  I know there aren't a lot of Russian ones out there that have been imported and they do list them as Romanian.

These are the salad days of AK drum magazines.  I have some Chinese and Romanian rear-loading drums already.

You're welcome.  If I see a good deal, I try to start a thread to pass it on.  It's nice when others do the same.

real surplus, each one has a serial number, for the most part very nice drums, some small spots of surface rust from storage on some units, otherwise mostly like new and we sorted out the ones that we felt did not make the grade. We had only 400 come in and we sorted 80 out of the mix that were either broken, not working right or did not meet our grade for cosmetics that we will sell later, leaving 320, less a few me and the warehouse guys are keeping. I spent all day today with my most experienced warehouse 'mag-man' at work inspecting these. A pretty limited lot and the last of them are listed online now. Otherwise I have some very good deals (In my opinion) on other AK mags coming soon. I priced them too cheap considering the time we have put into inspecting them and the loose we take on the bad ones we had to sort out, so I hope at least you guys enjoy them.

Trust me, we do appreciate the great deal. I've been looking for a top loader and keep missing them in the EE (plus they've been twice the price). Glad I got in on this deal.

ordered mine! Sold my top loader for $130 locally a few months ago to pay bills and have missed having a drum ever since. This just made my night and is an early bday present to myself (June 7th). As soon as I get it off to Cerakote it goes

Sam are you going to be listing these grade 2 cosmetic drums soon?  Any teasers on what these other AK mag deals will be?

+1

I've bought many of the rear-loading ones from you, as well as the 40 round PMags.  Lots of ammo as well.  Highly recommended to do business with SGAmmo.

Picked up 1 and 1 each or the asian mags Sam has for sale.

Hopefully this drum will not need as much fitting as the Romy I bought about 10 years ago.

They're listed again for anyone that missed them.  Didn't get mine ordered till today.  Description still says near new so I'm guessing/hoping these aren't the not as nice looking ones Sam pulled out.

Received my yesterday and it looks nice. Solid build.

Had to remove a burr on my WASR 10/63 magwell. Seems that the 30rd and 20rd magazines didn't have an issue, but the drum did. The drum has a small lip that hung up on the burr. A quick hit with my dremel removed it and made mag changes easier.

How does one open up these top load drums to clean? Mine has some cosmo from what I can see.

use a bullet tip, screwdriver etc and push in the center of the nut on the back of the drum. Once the center is pushed in / recessed, turn the nut counter clock wise and pull up. Now you can remove the back plate of the drum . You can take out the "star" in the inside but I forgot how (i think you unscrew something that holds it in place) but you want to make sure the spring is not under tension first or it will spin fast as hell and can take off a finger!

Thanks for the tip. Easy to remove and open up the drum.

Had loaded up the drum with 75rds but didn't want to manually unload, so I shot all 75rds. Worked well, no jams or FTFs. Unfortunately I need to get a good rest or bipod; very hard to get a good forward grip with the drum in the way.

Also the drum gets in the way of my Romanian side folder stock.

Good thing, all the parts, ie the back plate, drum, and spindle all have the same ID number.

Now I have to clean up the drum from all the cosmoline and dust.

Sorry to hear that Falcon.  I would still contact them, they were suppose to be in near new condition, I think no return is mainly for ammo.  Get mine tomorrow and anxious now to see the condition.  Anybody else get theirs yet?

Got my two, looked up the return policy, all sales final.  If you missed them consider yourself lucky.  Mine have heavy rust where the tower meets the drum and inside between where the tower covers the drum body.

Wow, sad to see those rusty ones. Got my first 5 Friday. Got them all wiped down and couldn't be happier with the condition. All with solid .mil serial numbers and in fantastic shape. I have more due in tomorrow. Hope they aren't like the rust buckets above. I can't believe that if you contact Sam he won't help you out in some way. Those drums you got are the polar opposite of like new condition. Here are the first 5 I got.

Mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.......If it comes all rusty like that one pictured I will be pissed! SG is my go to source for all ammo as well, I have had nothing but great experiences with them to date so Im hoping that is continued tomorrow. Now ill be nervous at work all day until I can get home at 10pm and check it out

Got mine today as I was walking out the door to work. Obviously turned right around with the package and headed back inside. The drum itself looks barely used, the inside is clean as can be with no signs of rust at all and pretty dry overall. The outside was very dry too, and in excellent condition with just minor wear on the black finish, no real rust spots anywhere. Mechanically, the loading lever is hanging up a little when just pushing it without actually loading rounds. It only does it 1 out of every 3 or 4 pushes of the lever. Im not expecting this to be a big issue, as it looks like the 3 round follower is slightly hanging up / tilting forward when it does it. Ill strip it down tonight completely with a good cleaning and im sure the lever will be smooth after.

Falcon, I would deff see about sending yours back, so far yours is the only one documented as received that looks like that
