In most all cases, the rifle length receiver extension uses only rifle length spring and buffer.
Running a carbine length parts combo allows the gas key to impact the lower receiver. |

Standard rifle buffer and rifle spring in a rifle buffer tube UNLESS you have the special spacer that takes up the internal space so a carbine buffer and spring can be used.
