I am looking to build a mid-quality AR. Aero Precision has some pretty good deals on upper/lower combos. Does anyone have any advice on Aero Precision? What is their quality like?

Any other manufacturers in the same price range?

Thanks!

I have 3 Aero uppers and 2 lowers. I got 2 of their "blemished" uppers on sale awhile back, and I can't find the blemishes. They look just as good as the non-blem Aero upper I put on my M&P Sport. As far as I'm concerned, Aero is GTG and I'll probably stick with them for future builds.

Well, I've got 3 sets (including a .308 M5E1) with one of their Freedom edition lowers on the way; so I might be a little partial to them myself.   Their AR15 receiver sets are top-notch and some of the features (like the captured rear takedown spring, the bolt-catch screw, and the tension screw) make for some nice kit.  I'd rank them as better than average quality.  The fit and finish is excellent, with no slop between the upper and lower.
I really, really like their "enhanced" uppers with the proprietary handguards; they are rock solid.  I believe the Seekins MSAR handguards also fit these receivers as well.

One caveat...Their M5 (.308) receivers had a couple of parts related hiccups when they first came out, but Aero quickly took steps to rectify the situation and most owners (myself included) have been very pleased with them as well.
As far as I know, their parts kits for the M5's have now resolved all of these issues.

The bolt catch screw is only on the M5 (.308) receivers as far as I know......?

I have two Aero uppers and 4 Aero Gen 2 lowers.  I really like their lowers, very hard to beat for the cost.  You can get the Gen 2 lowers from a few vendors for $55-$60.  Aero makes uppers and lowers for many other resellers who have their name put on them.

For the money it'll be hard to beat Aero. My parts have had a nice tight fit, and the BCGs are GTG. Buy with confidence.

Aero is g2g and on par with all other forged mil spec uppers and lowers...

In fact aero probably makes half of them too lol

Recent article in Shotgun News reviewed 10 AR lowers for quality and fit.    Anderson was among top three.  Check it out.   Good informative article by respected source.

I just purchased a PSA complete pistol upper assembly that came with an Aero upper receiver. It has great finish and fit. I have several PSA uppers but this is the only one they used an Aero upper receiver on.

Aero does all their CNC work in house, cutting their own and many others' receivers from forged blanks...not just somebody that orders them with their roll mark.

They are also now majority owners of Ballistic Advantage barrels.

Aero Precision makes a good product and it's hard to beat for the price. You might do better cost wise with Anderson. I'd take Aero if I had to choose between the two. I have two small frame receiver sets, and two large frame receiver sets. All have been awesome!

Here's one of mine with the old roll mark. I assembled the AP lower and plopped a CMMG upper on it - fit perfect. Before I built it I compared it to my Colt 6721 lower and could see no difference. AP used to make aircraft-quality extrusions and forgings for the aerospace industry. The boss is a gun guy, and when the industry had a downturn, he got started making AR lowers. For my money, you can't buy a better standard forged lower.

My last few builds have been Anderson and PSA lowers/uppers.

This time, however, I decided to spend a bit more and go with Aero. Fit and finish is fantastic, the extra features (threaded takedown pin hole, upper/lower tension screw, low shelf) are great and IMO is a better value than both PSA and Anderson unless you're on an extreme budget.

For a forged lower or upper I'm not sure there is a better buy....even for a high end rifle.

My last two builds have been Anderson lower and Aero upper with no issues.  AIM has an Anderson upper /lower set with BCG for 139 delivered if your looking for the best deal.
