Masking tape is your friend, especially when installing the magazine catch.

This.

Welcome to the site op!

Lowers are super easy, the only tools you really need is a hammer and an exacto blade (for the detent springs)

Looks like a good start!

Hammer?

I have never used a hammer on LPK installations.  And I've done dozens

OP, I would recommend using proper tools.  There are specifically designed tools for installing pins on lowers.  Check with brownells.

Get a bolt catch tool and roll  pin pusher tool from Little Crow Gunworks and it makes them easy peasy. No broken tabs, no worrying about marring it with a missed hammer strike, etc.

Good advice, just to add:  Every gun workbench needs a light mallet, something about 3 or 4 oz weight.  You need them to drive home the roll pins.  I suggest you use padded vise grips for the pin that secures the trigger guard.  That way you avoid or reduce the risk of breaking off the mating ears on the lower receiver.  The various roll pins are the only really challenging part of the whole assembly, IMO.  It helps if you have the right sized roll pin driver and starter punches.  good luck - CW

For roll pins, a hammer comes in handy

if you plan on building several  ars, then yeah, its worth it, but not if you are just gonna build one

Brownells makes an awesome roll pin punch for the bolt catch. It's slab sided so it's not fully round. I used a standard punch and was careful. you can buy long punches too.  You don't "need" one, but it's more along the lines of, it's nice to have if your building a lot of stuff. But for a one or 2 time use, not needed.

Welcome to the club. This should help you get started:  http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/ . It was helpful on my first build and I look at it everytime I assemble a lower. Done 5 so far and it's getting easier with each one.

It's easy to assemble. Don't rush it. Congratulations also and welcome to the club!

There are lots of videos on Youtube for installing the lower parts kit. Also, there are a lot of step by step guides on the net.  I have assembled Lego kits for my kids when they were young that were far more complicated than building a good AR

( I shudder when i remember that damn Barbie minivan my daughter wanted for Christmas when she was 8 - 3 hours to put that thing together and I'm an engineer!).

Take your time and think about what you do before you do it. A lite hammer or sledge, ( 3-4oz) will come in handy.

Your not driving (smacking) it like a golf club trying to get a hole in one on a par 4 hole. lite but firm taps will get you there.

Watch some you tube vids and keep the computer ready to ask or review again.

Take the advice from other that have been down this road a time or two, And take your time.

If you follow our advice you will change from this guy to this guy

Here is my build so far.  Moving kind of slow but since this is my first I want to make sure I do things right.  Need more parts tot continue from the point but will order them soon enough.  It's taking shape...

Moving slow is just fine. Take your time research the parts you want, read up on others reviews and experiences, and have fun. BRD is the best disease you can catch!

Congratulations! Welcome to the club. It won't take long for you to be addicted either

If you have questions, need help etc., just let us all know. If you lose a spring putting it together, I have extras and I'll send you one for free.

If you'd like to create virtual renditions of how you'd like to build it, use Gunstruction. You can see the "Build Your Rifle" button up near the top of the page. It's free to use and all you need to do is install the Unity Flash Player (also free). Do yourself a favor though and use it with the Firefox web browser (also free).

The lower parts can be assembled in less than ½ an hour. Take your time though, don't hurry. There are lots of vids on Youtube to show you how to do it and there are also instructions on the net with step by step pics (that's what I used when I built my first one).

The only thing I would add is a CMMG ambidextrous safety.  If you can find one.  Brownell's currently has them.

Lookin' good so far!

Putting together your first rifle is a ton of fun and there is no better way to teach you the ins and outs of an AR.
