I was looking to build a 18" upper.

I was just wondering if I would have any problem running rifle gas and rifle buffer?
or
Should I run mid gas with rifle buffer.

I have read a 18 on rifle gas could be under gassed, but 18" on mid gas is a little over gassed

I have a 20" NM A2. That is why I was leaning towards the rifle gas seeing how the sight setup would be the same. I would most likely get a scope setup on it anyways sorta SPR

I'd rather have too much gas.

I ran a rifle gas on my 18" when I had it.  I used a Semi-Auto carrier and a A2 buffer set up.  Cycled very smoothly.

My JP 18" barrel with rifle length system runs nice and smooth. I do have their silent capture buffer, low mass bolt carrier, and adjustable gas block.

Both of mine have rifle gas, no cycling issues.

Either should be fine as long as it's a quality barrel manufacturer. There is also intermediate length which I believe Noveske and Odin Works offer on 18"

Depends on who made the barrel and what size the gas port is.

I've got a faxon on a fixed stock.   Haven't had a problem but the weakest ammo i've run thru it is ppu match.

You can always contact us if you have any questions. We opt for the .093" on rifle-length barrels. We found its a great balance of recoil and reliability.

My 18" is rifle length gas tube and buffer. No problems

Good Luck!

Well the barrel I am looking at has .109 gas port

I was going with a DCM free float tube with Magpul MOE hand guards fitted on with a YHM flip front sight/gas block

just need the funds to do it all  lol

18" rifle gas ARP barrel with stock carbine buffer and spring = 100% reliable.

Odin Works makes an 18 inch Wylde chamber with an intermediate gas length system. i have one and it cycles very reliably and smoothly, plus it is dead nuts accurate. sub moa with factory ammo.

After reading this thread, I'm a little bit concerned. I have a RRA 18" SS varmit barrel on the way that has a mid length gas system. I have a carbine buffer spring and buffer. This is going on a BCM reciever. I hope it cycles correctly.

As long as the buffer and receiver extension match you'll be fine. The gas length of the barrel doesn't matter
