I am about to order a custom Turnbull TAR-15 build, to be used primarily as a host for an Ares Shrike belt-fed upper, and secondarily as a mid-range target shooting platform with the original steel upper. I am a battle rifle type, utterly innocent of the AR15 platform and its ammo. The only component I know I want is the Tac-Con 3MR trigger that impressed me at this year’s SHOT Show. I would greatly appreciate any advice concerning components suitable for precision shooting.

I tried a Tac-con at the range once and was not impressed.  For a precision rifle I'd go Geisele.  Then again I would also not go the Turnbul route for a battle rifle.  I'd go BCM or even Mega Billet Ambi if it was me.

franklin armory had an awesome trigger design at shot show.
its basically a double tap trigger. 1 pull fires one round and releasing the trigger fired a second round. its awaiting batfe approval.
i own a taccom 3mr and its ehh. they put out alot of hype and delivered a mediocre trigger in my opinion.

A turnbull for a shrike host???

What is the point besides impressing people with how much money you wasted?  Any in-spec lower will get you there for significantly less. Its not like the shrike is an object d'art.  It's black, it's ugly, it goes bang. Are you getting the shrike finished to match the turnbull?

Shrike + Turnbull?

Shrikes are CA approved?

Just in case this isn't some weird troll post, I suggest a Geissele trigger over a crap-con. Also, tag for pics.

That reminds me, I need to stop over to Turnbull and handle some of the stuff he has there.

We have no restrictions on uppers, but flash hiders and folding stocks create issues. Legacy magazines and belts are good to go. I like a steel receiver, and Turnbull is the only current maker to offer one. I thought Tac-Con was much better this year than last.

Which model of Geissele for accuracy? Also, which bolt assembly and rifle-length barrel?

That's very easy to do with a Ruger Mini-14 and a staple.

But I've heard both ways: Go or No-go on legality.

I guess it depends on which side of the bed the bureaucrat got up on.

One pull or two movements of the trigger?

Looks like a Google list of  "most expensive AR 15 parts".

Either trolling, or more money than sense.  Nobody jumps into the 2015 AR market that starts at $450 wanting a $3,000 rifle, a $500 POS trigger and a $4,000 vaporware upper.
