Looking to barrel a .300 blk I'm building and would love to get suggesstions for it. Will be for my son to hunt with one day and I'll likely suppress it also. Weight doesn't really matter cause it will be less recoil for him which is a good thing. I like stainless and like fluted also but neither are necessary. Don't want to break the bank on it but just want a nice barrel capable of good groups for hunting with. Thanks

Gosh that's a good looking rifle. Man they are so dang high. Where's the best place to get a wc barrel? I was hoping to get a barrel <200$. They ever go on sale? Thank you very much for the suggestion. May have to do it cause no one else has suggesstions. Lol

Does redx have a good rep? Just started hearing about them. Also wouldn't you lose some velocity from supersonic rounds with a 10.5 barrel?

I bought a Red-x 16" SS 5.56 barrel from them for my son's build. It shoots decent groups with my hand loads and factory ammo. I can tell you the barrel was very dirty in the bore when we received it. Also the chamber was tight . We polished the chamber and checked it with a chamber gauge/reamer. Once polished and he fired a few hundred rounds it has not had an issue since.

Get a pistol length gas port on whatever barrel you get if you ever want to suppress it in the future.  Carbine gas length can be finicky.

Now I don't know what direction to go. Wonder if the .300 is even worth buying into. Very few uses its good for as compared to the .223. Probably would just be as well to let him use my .223 instead? If I built a 16" with pistol has could I use my .223 lower with carbine buffer? Suppressed .300 would still only be good for small-medium game at close range too right? I know shot placement means everything but...

A 300BO is balistically similar to a 30/30 or a 7.62 x 39.  It is a plenty good deer getter at 200, maybe 250 yds.  If you need to take a shot longer than that I don't recommend it, but the recommendation to build a pistol is the way to go.  For a kid the blackout recoil isn't bad at all, and being very efficient you only need about 10" of barrel to get most of the velocity it's capable of (16 really doesn't get you much more as the powder is all burned at about 9").  My 10.5" pistol is only about 26" long and weighs in at about 6 lbs with glass on it.  I would have LOVED to have been hauling that around vs the 12lb .303 Brit my father first gave me to hunt with.  The Sig brace will add about another lb but it's still short and easy to maneuver, and offers plenty power within it's effective range.  So unless 300yds or more are the regular where you hunt the blackout is a fine round.

Guys I really appreciate it a lot. Pretty excited to build this now. Think I'm sold on the 10.5 and pistol idea. Then I'll probably sbr it maybe in the future for him.

Palmetto State Armory has a few 300 black barrels with pistol length gas systems for under 100$ .

I'm just unsure of palmetto state armory. I know a lot of guys on here run their products but i kinda look at it like you get what you pay for. Kinda scared to buy one from them.

The problem with sota arms is they only offer parkarized barrels in 10" and ss in 8. I want a 10.5 ss barrel. I actually went to their website just now to buy one and see it's not offered.

I totally understand the need for budget friendly components, but I would strongly advocate paying a little more for the barrel.    The barrel is the single most important component when it comes to accuracy.    A low buck barrel barrel will have looser tolerances, because they have lower profit margins.   A low buck barrel manufacturer is a lot more likely to "let something go" because they are far less able to afford to scrap a part that isn't "just right".

Save the equivalent of two tanks of gas for the truck and get a barrel from a reputable manufacturer from the 200 - 300 range rather than 100 and you will only feel the pain once when you buy it.    You will feel the pain from every missed shot if you go cheap guy on the most important part.

IMHO
