Just installed a CMMG handguard my KAK flash can wouldn't fit. I have have a few other options but they will vent under the guards a little.
Do you think it will do damage ?

I wouldn't try it but that's me.

Not a smart idea

No do not do it

At best it will make a huge mess blanketing everything in a coat of filth in under 10 rounds

At worst you will get some nast flame cutting and melting of the handguard. The gas that is coming out of those ports is FAST and HOT!

Look into the KAK slimline or as an alternate idea I put a no-name flash can in a lathe and turned off the knurling until it fit under the 12 inch rail on my 7.5 inch 5.56 pistol. I had plenty of meat left when I was done

You might also look into one of those long flashhiders like for an 11.5 XM or something like that

Thanks I had my doubts just wanted to hear it from someone else. It wouldn't take much for the KAK to clear may have to find a way to turn it ?

I install the muzzle device before I install the handguard. If I install a new one I take off the rail to install it.

here is what I was referring to please excuse the droidpotato pics

I think I had to turn 0.60 or 0.90 off to get it to fit

Is there enough clearance in there ? My hider will stick out more than that so it my be easier to turn .

Since a linear comp directs the blast forward I don't think it is an issue, but a traditional comp or hider may be a little more problematic

If it would stick out more you will have to turn off less than I did the part on mine that needed the most cutting was the upper lip on the cone that screws into the can base

I have, and I know of several others who shoot far more and harder than I do that have, a 14.5" barrel with a Battlecomp partially under a 15" handguard.  No issues after several thousands of rounds.

I know it's not the same as yours, so take it for what it's worth.  At the least, your handguard will get pretty hot.

Are hand guards made to take that kind of heat?

I would imagine that some of that blast will go up and back through the hand guard as opposed to up and through the end.

look for a longer comp.
(or are you planning on changing out the hand guard?)

pin a suppressor to it?

Buy the skinny KAK can instead...

Another option would be the Troy Claymore break......it'll fit in the hand guard and direct blast forward.

Bad idea, E.  As is, hot gas from the FH will likely ruin your handguard in short order.  Also, you need a few inches of exposed barrel to grip the barrel when you remove and reinstall your muzzle device.  I suppose you could remove the handguard every time you want to clean the barrel crown.

Personally, I don't understand the attraction of handguards that extend almost to the end of the barrel, but then that's why its called "build it yourself", everyone can have it their own way.  When I'm at the local rifle range and I see an interesting AR, I usually ask the shooter if she/he built it herself.  Most of the time the answer is yes.  - CW

I don't like the flash hider under the guard it was a miss calculation on my part and was wondering if I could get by this way. I want the brake or flash hider beyond the guard just in case my fingers end up beyond the guard expecially on a pistol.
I robbed the Samson rail off this for a 450 bushmaster build and it shoots so well I didn't want to change it out. The inside diameter of the Samson is larger than the CMMG and the CMMG is touch longer. I probably just swap the parts around tonight and be done.
Thanks guys for your advice.

Foregrip is a Stark Equipment AFG and the cheekrest is a Thordsen Customs buffer tube cover with one of their CAA saddle adaptors

Actually this is an awesome idea as you would still have the "pokey" look as with the Medieval FH and the lager diameter would fill out the hole in the rail.

But since you are just swapping it out the point is moot

I have the standard OD kak can and the troy vtac rail. they have molecules of clearance. This is my 2nd setup like this and both times I put emery cloth on a socket and clearance the handgaurd to about .010(sheet of paper slips in) and then check them after a few rounds to make sure it hasn't heated and expanded into the rail. last thing i want is to split a $175 rail.

OP setup looks like a good way to burn some fingers though.

Got things sorted out today . I put the CMMG on my 450 and the Samson on my 10.5 " 223. The meat grinder went to my 7.5" 223 this will have to do for a while.
Thanks for the help.
