Hi all.
I have two 7.62x39 ARs that I want to turn into dissipator pattern rifles.  Both barrels are .700ish (one is .700 on the dot,  the other is .697 where the front sight block would be pinned.
Would traditional taper pins be safe on these skinny, 7.62 barrels?

the main problem i see is where are you going to find gas block/fsb's in a non standard size? (.700"ish?)

for the record, original prototype and production late '50's early '60's AR10's were .625" pinned  FSB's with a 7.62mm bore.
good enough for them, its good enough for me.

Did not know that,  thanks much!

I assume that you are cutting down the original front sight base to convert it into a gas block and the new front sight base will be installed at the 'rifle' sight position.

That being the case I would get a .625" sight base and have it reamed up to the exact .700"ish  diameter that you have to work with and then pin it. Without a gas port to seal and slick surface where the dissipator sight will sit is not necessary and reaming a .625" base up to your .700"ish diameter leave you with the most surface area in you fit up and the most meat around your bore and pin intrusion.

ADCO can jig it all up and pin it for you.

I built them both with low profile SS gas blocks, but essential yes. I figured I might do something like this in the future.

Bingo, that's been the plan. Luckily both are so close to .700 (one barrel is ARP, the other was re-profiled by ADCO) That I'm hoping a 45/64 bit would work in both cases. Though the ARP barrel is melonite coated so I was thinking of roughing it up prior to assembly. Have to look into the pros/cons of that if any at all.

ADCO is great, they did a fine job reprofiling one of the barrels in question, but they state on their site they will not work on coated/melonited barrels. I have one of each lol.
Oh and thanks for the link!
