Sooo its time to build a new ar.  I have been a lurker here for eons and finally signed up, i have built three ars.  One is a Stag upper midwest rail psa lower alg act trigger etc etc.  One is a basic PSA m4 clone, and the other is a franken 6.8 SPC rifle.  So now for a new one, I have some funds set aside and i would like it to be something different i saw a deal on a 7.62x39 or maybe a 300 blackout.  One contignet i do live in Upstate NY so a supressor is out of the question, and the new build needs to be featurless or with an MR2 or mag lock......so what do the wizards have to say today.

You've got a pretty good mix already. What do you want to use or have the rifle for?

hunting and target.  While 5.56 is legal to hunt deer and bear(in nys) with it is not humane or effective.  6.8 is an awesome round but...pricy as i cannot buy ammo online.  So i guess a deer carbine thats badass?...

I am not sure how much 6.8 ammo is I've never looked into it, but if you think it is pricey... The cost of the ammo is going to dictate which direction you should take. 300 is cheap, but not that cheap. 7.62 x 39 is cheap altogether.

If you reload, then you can cut the price of your ammo and you have a wider choice. I got into reloading way back when I was shooting a lot of 10mm. It has come in handy for all my pistol rounds. It drops the price of my Grendel rounds somewhat, but I like reloading for it as I have more control.

If you are going by ammo cost, then  the 7.62x39 is probably your best bet.

yeah 6.8 is more expensive then my .308 bolt guns....  I like the idea of the 7.62x39, anyone know of any differances in the upper?  Is it just a different barrell bolt and mag?
