Very nice setups. Here's mine that got finished just last Wednesday. I built this rifle together with my gunsmith (he did the machine work). It's intended to compete in IPSC Rifle.
Details: Lower receiver: Lower receiver is a Lamar Multi-Cal (my gunsmith's own brand and the only AR15 lower made in the Netherlands) ACE-stock CAA pistol grip RRA 2-stage trigger group Arendondo enlarged magazin button Standerd rifle buffer (lightened to 89 gram) Upper receiver: Upper receiver is a milled TNW receiver Barrel is an 18" stainless bull barrel bought from Double Star (made lighter by thinning it to .650" under the handguard) JP Benny Cooley large profile Muzzle Brake Handguard Double Star BCG Double Star (lightened to 195 gram) Enlarged charge handle Double Star Gas Block Double Star (made adjustable) Scope: Redfield 2-7x33 Accu-Range Planned: red dot Docter clone side mounted behind the scope. Tested the rifle today: groups of less then 1/2 MOA should be possible as I managed to get 1/2 MOA already without having really tested ammo (these groups were shot with Sierra 60gr HPFB, 23,5 gr VV N135 powder, S&B primers and once fied Prvi brass. http://members.home.nl/t.ezendam/Guns/AR15/IPSC.setup.1.jpg http://members.home.nl/t.ezendam/Guns/AR15/IPSC.setup.2.jpg And the BCG next to a standard one for comparison: http://members.home.nl/t.ezendam/Guns/AR15/IPSC.BCG.2.jpg Would like to hear your comments. |

Not sure what the barrel will do with any high-volume firing. What advantage are you looking for from the lightened carrier? Faster cycling, lighter recoil? Looks good, just some observations... |

Not sure what the barrel will do with any high-volume firing. What advantage are you looking for from the lightened carrier? Faster cycling, lighter recoil? Looks good, just some observations... When I bought the upper receiver, the only slick side receiver I had ever seen was the JP one. At the moment I'm checking out websites (since last Wednesday) but, I still want the shell deflector. Saw one on the Les Baer website so very likely I'll get that one and pick it up at a friend in October. The reason why the barrel has this profile is to compensate recoil when shooting fast, yet the rifle has to be light for carrying. The weight out front also helps when doing transitions from one target to the other. The most rounds that will go through the barrel in one run is 40. Then it's back to the gun rack for cooling. This upper is dedicated for IPSC Rifle where the long course has a max of 40 rounds. I also shoot Dynamic Service Rifle but for that I have a 7,62x39 upper with TNW piston system as these matches sometimes have a round count of 150 in one run with sometimes a max time of 4 minutes per run. In my mind the heavier/larger rounds are a plus because of the heavier targets instead of just paper/sometimes poppers like in IPSC rifle. You're dead on for the lightened bolt carrier. Cycles faster so, faster follow up shots and recoil becomes less because you have less mass moving back and forth. No problem with observations. I'll try to answer them as best as I can ;) Thanks! |

My first AR build. After reading through many of the posts here I decided that I would at least give the lower a shot at assembling myself. Lower assembly was completed a couple of weeks a go, without a hitch thanks to the wonderful how-to threads, and I just finished the full assembly on Wednesday night after the upper assembly arrived and so I am hoping to get out this weekend for it's initial break-in.

Lots of very nice builds! Here is mine. Still lacks a quality trigger. Was running a POF lower, then replaced it with the Noveske lower to match. These are too much fun!

I considered it instead of the ACS but I may replace the MOE on my RRA with the UBR. Gotta love the MagPul stock line up. For this particular rig, the UBR balances out the overall weight very nicely. It is very solid and sturdy. The available preset positions are much appreciate. I always liked the ACS's cheek weld and I still run one on another set-up. However, the UBR affords me a consistent and comfortable cheek weld up to the charging handle. For some, the only down side to the UBR may be that it does not use a conventional end plate/castle nut assembly. Some people opt to use multi function capable type end plates a.k.a. MagPul ASAP, DD QD, etc. The UBR uses a proprietary receiver extension tube, which does not require the use of an end plate or castle nut. Personally, I prefer the lack of the said for finish and function. The UBR may be a bit heavy for some of the lighter builds. |
