After about 4 years of trying out different setups, I think I have finally found my favorite personal setup. About the only things that I might change is swapping to a maritime bolt catch and Airborne charging handle from Geissele, but I haven't been able to justify the purchase yet. I've been running this configuration for about 6 months now. I'm about 600rds in with one competition and few wild hogs on the board. My only problem seems to be that I have too much fun shooting it and I end up tearing through my ammo stockpiles faster than normal.

Here is a breakdown of parts;

  • Aero Precision Gen 2 Lower

  • ALG ACT Fire Control Group

  • Magpul MOE Fixed Rifle Stock, Grip, & Trigger Guard

  • JP Silent Captured Spring

  • Aero Precesion M4E1 Enhanced Upper & 12" Handguard

  • BCM Gunfighter Mod 4B Charging Handle

  • WMD NiB BCG

  • Faxon Firearms 18" SOCOM Profile Barrel W/Mid Gas

  • SLR Sentry 7 Adjustable Gas Block

  • AMTAC CQB 5.56 Suppresor

  • Magpul Pro LR Front & Rear Sights

  • Magpul MS1 Sling W/Paraclip & MLOK Mount

  • Magpul  MLOK AFG

  • EOTech EXPS2-2

Any parts not listed are standard fare Mil-Spec small parts with the exception of the rear takedown pin. It is a "quickpull" pin that I ordered from a site that dealt in CA compliant parts, and I threaded a loop of paracord through it. I mated the lower and upper together snuggly to minimize any receiver rattling, and it took a very deliberate push with the standard pin to break everything down, hence the change.
I debated on getting the adjustable gas block for a while right before I ordered my suppressor. Now every rifle that gets built for my household is going to have one.

My First build.  Wanted something to shoot steel out to 500 yards or so with a budget of $1000 for the rifle without optics.  Guess I built a SPR -ish rifle without really knowing what one was when I started.  I learned a lot from lurking here and elsewhere online and had a buddy help a bit as well.  I found some great buys out there.  Didn't pay a nickle for shipping on anything.

It came in just under $1000 with tools included.  Got a great deal on the scope for less than $230 shipped.

The parts:

Lower Receiver - Anderson stripped

LRPK - Anderson

Trigger - Rise Armament RA140-SST

Upper Receiver - Ballistic Advantage assembled

Barrel - Ballistic Advantage 17.7" Hanson Mid w/low profile gas block

BCG - Aero Precision nitride

Handguard - Aero Precision Atlas S1 MLok

Buffer Assembly - No name carbine from Ballistic Advantage

Charging Handle - Strike Industries

Compensator - VG6 Delta

Buttstock - Magpul CTR

Grip - Magpul MIAD

Trigger Guard - Magpul

Magazines - Magpul

Scope - Nikon M-223 3-12 X 42

Scope Mount - Aero Precision Ultralight

I have also picked up a UTG Recon M-LOK bipod which I really like better than a Harris at the range.  Still working on loads, but it seems to like 69 gr. Sierra Match Kings and Varget.

Can't wait for the next build!

So far so good - just got it yesterday and was out this morning to fire the rifle for the first time (ate everything I tried perfectly). The glass is good and I really like reticle other than having to zero for 100 yds for the BDC to work as designed (rather than my normal 50/200 zero).

The only two things I'm less than enthusiastic about are
1) the focus ring moves pretty easily - need to use a drop of silicone or something to lock it in place
2) I have the mount all the way to the rear of the rail and I still have to collapse the stock a couple notches to get the eye relief right. I really need a cantilever ACOG mount of some type probably but I'm not keen on spending more money on it yet.

It's pretty fast to acquire but nothing equals the speed of a red dot/holo for <100 yds. Time will tell how I like it. Price is right and it comes in FDE

I had some spare parts laying around. Those parts became "nucleation sites" for a 9mm build.

Below, you can see the nucleation process starting:

The finished rifle pistol:

And the break-in at the local indoor range:

PARTIAL PARTS LIST (Just the Important Stuff)
- Standard AR-15 Upper Receiver
- Standard AR-15 Lower Receiver
- Standard AR-15 LPK
- Faxon 9mm Barrel, 10.5" long
- United Defense Labs 9mm BCG
- AR-Stoner 9mm Buffer (extended length, weighs 8 oz)
- Wolff Extra Power Buffer Spring
- 2nd-Gen PMags with EndoMag inserts

So far, it has fired 115, 124, and 147 grain ammo, both in FMJ and JHP flavors, with no major issues. It also runs reliably on cheap Russian 115 grain FMJ. And it can handle Federal 115 grain +P+ JHP. Long story short, it can eat a pretty varied diet. And that makes me happy.

Built for my wife. She bought the stripped lower, her friend's husband is a manufacturer and had lowers made with his rollmark. Other than the rail and barrel I had the rest of the parts sitting around.

]16" midlength Rainier Arms Mountain barrel (FN-made, CHF, double thick chrome line)

Superlative Arms gas block, dimpled and pinned

15" Geissele MK14

temporary Colt charging handle (Geissele on the way)

DD chrome BCG

BCM comp mod 0, stock, PNT trigger, grip, vfg, receiver extension, QD endplate

RTB milspec lower parts kit

MBUS sights on the way too, gonna let her get comfortable with those then let her decide what type of optic she wants.

Maxim Defense PDW Brace with JP captured silent spring Buffer
Radian Arms Raptor "LT" charging handle
Magpul Polymer Trigger Guard
Magpul MOE Grip
Cool 300 BLK sticker I found on Amazon
Magpul MS4 Gen2 QD sling

All was bought on sale, starting back in May, still have a couple small parts inbound. Was just out back playing with it. Definitely a 150-200 yard capable gun. Fun ringing steel with it. Would be a little happier with a longer sight radius for the BUIS, but I don't want to give up on the 12 o'clock light position. Very, very, please with the Scalarworks BUIS and MRO mount. Kinda expensive, but light, strong and look like works of art.

Been collecting parts since Black Friday and have assembled most of the rifle. Still need a charging handle and a decision on optics.
* Spike's "Punisher lower, Aero upper
* Spike's CHF CL optimum profile barrel (FN)
* Geissele Mk 14 rail in DDC
* BCM gas block
* B5 SOPMOD Bravo stock & P23 grip in Coyote Brown
* SOLGW Blaster Kit (lower parts)
* RTB nickel teflon trigger
* Spike's buffer tube kit w T2 tungsten powder buffer
* MBus Pro sights
* Toolcraft BCG

I will likely get a PA micro dot (knob, not buttons) but I'm undecided still. Also need some accessories like vertical grip, light mount, forward sling swivel QD, rail panels, etc. I have a tan Vickers sling in the mail too.

I'm also not 100% happy with the particular DDC shade I got and how it blends with the B5 Coyote Brown stuff. I may actually have it Cerakoted (or do it myself with Aluma-Hyde) a dark brown similar to the DD Milspec+.

Here is my rendition of a modern A2ish build.  It has a Bravo Company A2 gov't upper with a Palmetto Nickel BCG and a Bravo CH(the big latch one) on an Anderson lower.  it has a tactical Phantom FH, an adjustable Magpul pro rear sight, Magpul handguards, angled fore grip, fixed buttstock with storage, pistol grip.  The lower parts are Palmetto, and the trigger is a Velocity 4lb steel trigger(it always works on even the hardest primers).  The scope is a 2.5x Primary arms with the ACSS reticle.  All it really needs is a small riser for the scope - I can see a little too much of the front sight post when using it.  It is a full size ACOG mount so I'm still working on that.  So far its about a 2 1/2 inch group with LC m193, and about 1.5 inch with imi 69gn SMK at 100 yards.

Quick tip, fellas.  If you want to build some mk12 and recce clones, and want an excuse for the SO to sign off on the can purchase, build her a rifle with the OPS mounting system.  "It'll work on this gun for you too sweetie."

Fuckin GOLD.

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the AR world. I've always been fascinated by them and couldn't wait to get to a point in life where I could build my own. That point finally came and I built something that I like. I've only put 240 rounds through it so far, but I've had zero cycling issue with it. I'm sure I'll catch a little flak because I used PSA parts and an Anderson lower but I have zero complaints with it for my first ever AR owned and built. I went with the PSA parts because as usual on the PSA website they always have deals on their brand, so I saved a lot of money. I'm not done with this build as i'd like to add a good sight, bipod, sling, and some other accessories. I wouldn't hesitate to use Anderson or PSA for my next build, but I would like to build something with higher end parts in the future for a precision build. Anyways, thanks for looking, don't shred me too much, the Facebook AR15 Builders group shreds Anderson and PSA owners as it is lol.
