If every industry partner posted up pics of their builds from the factory, well....you get the idea. You guys have a complete forum dedicated to illuminating us AR junkies with gun porn |

My First Build
I Finished a couple months ago but I'll list what I can remember off the top of my head - Vltor Upper - Fail Zero BCG - Geissele SSA Trigger - FN 18" Barrel - Magpul Grip and Stock - Spikes Tactical Muzzle Break - 15" Troy Alpha Rail - Rainier Arms Charging Handle - Syrac Adjustable Gas Block - Vortex Diamondback HD 2-8 Scope - 45 Degree BUIS It is a little on the heavy side, I believe a little under 9 pounds. Paint is an acryllic model paint (tamiya) that I applied via airbrush. Once the paint has been on there for a month or two, I'll hit it with a little Krylon Maxx flat clear To finish this rifle, I am planning to run a PSA premium BCG and AXTS Raptor charging handle (the picture has a NiB Palmetto premium BCG and Raptor installed that I borrowed from another build). Eventually I will add optics. I have been planning to run a 1-4 or 1-6x scope with a burris fast fire on an offset mount. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-gNXUftxQBjc/VOJKEgVaREI/AAAAAAAADPg/pRgLvhRRAKI/w830-h553-no/IMG_7768.JPG View Quote That is one FINE spec'd and looking build you've got there. Here is my latest build. Polymer80 lower receiver, Ares Armory .223Wylde match grade upper with NiB BCG. Attempted a little Kryptek Typhon paint scheme to it. Very pleased with the quality of the Ares upper and the rifle shoots incredibly well.

When I was pulling the stencil, I had gotten to the point where I was just going to drop it all in an acetone bath, but glad I didn't give up on it. I'm looking forward to finishing it and putting some rounds through it. Spent some time sorting brass tonight to do some handloads with. Stopped by the local Cabelas and they had a Burris LRS 1-4x x 24 scope in the bargain cave. Couldn't pull the trigger on it because I want the rifle functional and the mbus will allow me to test function and do some load testing. Sometimes restraint is the most difficult part of putting together a rifle of your own creation. |

I wanted to start exploring more accurate rifle marksmanship, beyond what I normally engage in, which I kind of describe as "minute of badguy," where if I can get a hit on target at _____ distance, I am happy. I wanted a rifle that could approach 1 MOA, from the prone. I used a BCM 11.5 pistol build I had done, which I no longer used, as the base for the project, and then I tortured myself and my friends until I had deliberated at length on how to go about it. What follows is a short list of parts that went into the build, minus of course whatever omissions are noticed.
I am very happy with the results. Shown is a 100m prone group, using 77gr Federal Gold Medal Match factory ammo. I am hoping to make some handloads that can either match or beat this group. View Quote Hmmm... Well... Build quality? Weight? Looks? Love it. Actually mounting a scope with the damn thing? Hate it. The issue is that bottom mount screws and hook/groove top will rotate the scope a touch when you apply proper torque to the mount. It's takes some time to get it right...and it's kind of frustrating truth be told. |
