I don't mean that I want to hear about how expensive it is, that there are "better" options, that it is too heavy, or that you don't like the take down pins.. I already know about all of this stuff and what I might be getting into. I just want to hear about how those of you that have one or have dealt with them like them. I guess if you really hate the weight or the take down pins then yeah tell me about it, but really I wanna hear about reliability, accuracy, function.. all that good stuff. Give me some range reports and pics! I can't seem to find too much on here about em.

Thanks!

Aimpoint Promo info can be found here.

Back to OP topic of the HK though.

Yes, check it out. Very good promo, IMO, going on right now until the end of August from LWRC.

So you want us to tell you about it, but not its flaws?

We all think it is lovely....

It is well built, shoots nice, and resembles a 416.  But is not the same as a 416.   I would say it is built to last, but I would not buy one for the reasons you say you don't want to hear about though.

They are very nice rifles. I shot one and was impressed. I settled on the SCAR 16 due to price and weight though.

Just came back from the range after putting a Bushnell Tactical Elite 3.5-21X50 G2DMR scope on my HK MR556A1. My last 3 5 shot 100 yard groups after zeroing the scope were 0.679, 0.505 and 0.549. I previously had a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X40 LR scope on it. It has always shot well under 0.75 moa even with the crappy stock trigger and my handle loads (52 grain SMK's or 52grain Hornady Match HPBT with 26.2 grains of W748). But as long as I can shot those kinds of groups i'll not be spending $450 for the Geissele trigger. It it heavy, yes. Is it expensive , yes. Is it reliable. i've only out about 300 rounds thru it but have never had a problem so i'll say qualified yes. I also have a SCAR 16S which really needed the Geissele Super Scar trigger I installed. Accuracy is not even on  the same planet compared to the HK MR556A1. My SCAR 16S sits in the safe collecting dust. I'll put up with the weight and cost of the MR556A1 to get a weapon that can shots the way the HK MR556A1 does. I am not a Fan Boy for HK. As a matter of fact I dislike the lack of accuracy and felt recoil of the HK 91 and the lack of accuracy of the HK 93. I've had both and sold them years ago.
I think once you master the trigger of the MR556A1 or replace it with the Geissele trigger you will love the MR556A1. I have quite a few AR 15's, Noveske N4 Afghan, LWRC M6A2 SPR, BCM4, S&W 15T, SR556, Colt 6920 MP-R TALO, Colt 6600 HBAR, Colt 6724 H3 Enhanced and the MR556A1 is the most accurate.  The LWRC M6A2 SPR comes close after I installed the Geissele SSA-E trigger. To me the MR556A1 is worth every penny it cost.

I also don't see what the big deal with the take down pins is. You can easily take them down with the tip of a 556 round.I've never had to use the supplied tool to take to down.  Some go my other 556 AR's the standard pins are so tight they require a tap with a brass punch to get them moving.

I own a MR556 upper.  I had it cut down to a 10.4" barrel and re-profiled to lower the weight.  I've never had any issues with the upper firing suppressed and unsuppressed, dirty or clean.  It has cycled very type of ammo that I have fed it and its been very accurate.

Now the cons:

Even after cutting it down and re-profiling the barrel, it is heavy.  A fully assembled upper, with no accessories, weighs as much as an accessorized Mk18 upper (optic & light).  Parts are expensive and hard to get.  For the price of an HK MR556 BCG you can buy an SBR upper w/ a BCG.  Only certain triggers will work, unless you remove the safety on BCG.  Even after market parts are expensive and your options will be limited.

In the image below, the target was shot at 25 yards standing.

The only additions to My MR556 is the scope and mount. I have no need for anything else. I supposed if I had to trick it out the weight might be a problem. But i'm a big guy 6'2" 200 pounds so the weight is not a problem. As for the price of parts and accessories that's the same problem one encounters with the SCAR weapons. When I feel like toting a lighter AR 15 it's usually my LWRC M6A2 or Noveske N4 Afghan.

I own an MR556 with 2k rounds through it. For comparison, I have 10k through my 16S (no muzzle brake), and 5k through my SR15Mod0.

The MR naked is heavier than the other two tricked out.

The MR has more muzzle flip than the others.

The MR is more accurate than the others.

Reliability is the same for all three. The 16S has been cleaned once, the SR15 and MR556 have not.

MR556 and 16S run both 5.56 and .223 with no problems. SR15 does not lock back with .223.

What else would you like to know?

Nope I am telling you that I don't need to hear about those flaws because obviously I already know about them. If you know of any others from personal experience, that is what I want to hear about, but obviously you don't and you just posted to post and troll a thread..

Edit: I meant to quote zackmars' worthless response.

Thanks for this response. Great to hear about that accuracy; that is impressive. The one I was going to get had the Geissele trigger already installed and the Geissele handguard as well, but the offer is now off the table anyway. I may look into this model in the future, but for now I will run my new LWRC SPR as much as possible and probably build something different after that. I am thinking about an SBR in 300 Blackout so I can suppress it and use it as a home defense weapon. Anyway, thanks again for the detailed response and I am glad yours is running so well for you.

Edit: I meant to quote samnev here.

They have a Generation 2 version (so to speak). In both 556, and 762 with a factory tuned barrel/suppressor combination. I would hold off and get one. I had hands on at SHOT, they have worked out a number of things, as well as made them more reliable, able to run hotter, and the suppressor is tuned to that specific rifle from the factory. I know you said you don't want to hear it, but "their are better options" in the future.

MR556A1-SD would be a better choice.

I forgot to add, they also have the comp model out now.

I have seen that and it looks pretty great, but if you watch any videos of people shooting them they are ridiculously loud while suppressed. It almost doesn't make sense to me how they say they spent all this time developing the system and it looks to not do much except eliminate a lot of muzzle rise. Now maybe, since you said they worked some things out since shot, they are better now and the videos I watched were guns prior to this, but still, I don't think I even like the idea of having a suppressor tuned and only applicable to one gun when I can go get a 30 caliber suppressor and use it on multiple guns.

I appreciate your response. It is definitely something to look into and I am sure they will keep improving upon their great products.
