Been a handgun guy for years and just ordered my first rifle.  Was debating between LWRC, FHN SCAR and PWS.  Went with PWS MK114.
It will be part of my HD weapons, and will use it for some range fun at a 275 yard range.  Also ordered a Geissele SSA and an Aimpoint Micro T-2, so the rifle with AimPoint mounted will still weigh in under 7 lbs.  As my wife trains in using our HD weapons, the weight, balance, reasonably low recoil, and price point combined to put the PWS on top.
Having respect for the DI platform but not an AR15 purest, I'm fine with a piston gun, and don't mind a proprietary design in PWS' long piston system.  I really wanted a SCAR for the longest time, also a proprietary design, but by the time I put a trigger and scope on it, it was just getting way above what I wanted to spend on a rifle.
So, anyway, pretty stoked to get it.  Should be delivered to my FFL by late next week or early the following week.  Anybody have any suggestions for a new owner of a piston AR?

06/14/15 - Finally got it all set up with Aimpoint MicroT-2, Scalarworks LDM110 1/3 mount, Streamlight TLR-1 HL, Geissele SSA trigger and angled hand grip.  Weights 7 lbs. 10 oz without magazine.  Light enough the wife can use it.  Went out this morning and zeroed the optic, shot some rounds through it, as did the wife.  She's comfortable with it, and I really like it.

Great choice, you will love it. Once you receive your trigger and Aimpoint, just sight it in. Then shoot it and enjoy. You will love the lack of recoil and muzzle rise. It is one sweet weapon to shoot.

Italia: I've been looking at the same gun. Where did you order it?

Red's Trading Post in Twin Falls, Idaho via GunBroker.  Paid $1699 (no credit card fees or tax, free shipping, and free 100 round SureFire Magazine).  Probably could have done better if I called around to a bunch of dealers and tried to negotiate, but since there was only 1 dealer within 100 miles of me who didn't have one in stock, I just did a Buy It Now.

Run the shit out of it... You'll be very happy.

It's a better rifle than the SCAR, so don't feel as though you went with the "cheap" option.

Yeah, the more I rad about PWS, the less I care about the SCAR.  The PWS is lighter and based on what I can read, just as accurate and quick to return to target.

And the stock isn't going to break.... So, there's that.

Great rifles, first thing I did with mine was swap out the cheap MOE MAgpul stocks and replace the triggers with Geisseles - SD-E and SSA-E. Great shooters, about 9000 rounds through the Mk116 and 1500 through the Mk216.

Great choice. Owning a couple PWS platforms, I have been running them hard with no issues. I would also like to say that PWS has been great. Needed help on a self inflicted issue while I was in Boise and they didn't hesitate to tell me to come by the shop for the part, installation, a hat and a flagpole flag. Good people.

Reds is a great store with a fantastic staff, top notch and have bought many many firearms from them.

I currently own 4 PWS ( a Mod 1 and 2 Mod 0 MK114s and one MK116 Mod 0) and I have help sell a bunch to both friends and other shooters who shot mine as well as my recommendations here.

I have never had one person come back and say they regretted getting a PWS and most say it is their favorite rifle

The Mod 1 is better because it is lighter and certainly the adjustable gas for cans is important but a low round count Mod 0 is a better value.

I recently bought a 114 and 116 on GB and the two ran under $2K shipped in my hand.

My original MK114 (2011) had 15K + rounds and I felt I should replace it as my primary trainer. After getting the replacement I did a shoot off and both the under 1K count and 15K count shot the same.
I am not saying the 15K count barrel is not close to losing accuracy. It may be a few rounds from starting to open up I really do not know but at 15K it shoots like it always has.
My thinking is make the older gun a home SD carbine always ready because the few rounds it may (or may not?) have left make it perfect for that roll.

I prefer the op rod on the Mod 0 because it does not come apart.
In 4+ years I have never had a reason to separate the forward piece of the rod and remove the CH but every time I pull the Mod1 bolt the forward piece falls out and that  would not happen to a Mod 0 if for any reason i needed to check something in the field.
Of course these require no cleaning and every 10 range trips a pull of the bolt and wipe off of the op rod and bolt face is all that is required with a complete strip down rarely needed and more cause I just want to check everything once in a while.

I rarely shoot one of my DI ARs. The fact i can shoot a PWS come home and stick it back in the safe is so outstanding

While I feel the advantages of a PWS are best appreciated in offhand CQ drills the other pistons that are all somewhat muzzle heavy and unbalanced compare to a PWS if one is sitting at a bench the lighter better balance means little and let's face it there are many nicely made drop dead beautiful guns being made by LWRC, Barret and LMT to name a few.

Check out Armalite's new piston AR. Does it look familiar?

Considering the caliber ( by level of quality not bore) you were zero'ing your search on you couldn't go wrong no matter whom you chose, but you will find the PWS a very refined and enjoyable AR platform.

I wish I had known you were going to let your wife shoot it. I would have warned you not to let her because she is probably going to take it away from you. Good luck :)

I bought my wife that same gun with an Aimpoint. I bought myself one soon after. Favorite gun. Light. I own Larues, LWRC, Colt, and a few more. Great Great gun. Piston system is super simple.
