Thinking about getting one of these, 10" in 5.56 NATO.  Just wondering what the consensus is on the reliability of these two?

It's a proven design going a long way back.  The 556XI is merely a modernized upgrade.  Can't go wrong with either one.....but they are a bit hefty:-)

I just got a 516 I couldn't be happier with mine and it's not that bad on the weight about 7 lbs

XI, while based on existing an design, is still unproven at this point.

You'd really have to wait awhile to realistically compare the two.

I own the 516 10.5 upper and the 556XI 10 inch pistol in 7.62x39. The 516 has given me the least problems out to the two weapons. The 516 with my Surefire 7.62K suppressor has FTF in suppressed mode. The 556XI has failures to feed every other round with Magpul P-Mags.  Which is odd because the same mags run flawless in my Sig 556R and the lower are suppose to be pretty much the same.

I got a chance last Sunday to shoot my buddies 556Xi Russian SBR. Gun ran flawlessly both Suppressed and Unsuppressed. So looks like I unfortunitly ended up with a bad rifle. I'm going give it a second chance tomorrow before I give Sig CS a call.

I'd get the 516. I've had one for about  years now. It's very accurate and has been flawless. Never a single bobble of any kind. My 556 while it has been without any problems is my least accurate 556 semi no matter if I use FGMM or tailored hand lads. A very frustrating weapon. Haven't shot it in 5 years.

Ive got a 516 pistol 7.5 and a sig P556 pistol both ar reliable as hell w the 516 doing better at a hundred yards.......better as in accuracy. The P556 requires less maintenance but is heavier than the 516.
either way you wont go wrong. The 7.62 in the XI version sounds real good, especially w cheap ammo, shoot more for less is a deal maker for sure.. HTH

Not exactly a good reviewer, either.
