Hello AR15.com,

I am new to the AR15.com community and would like to say thank you in advance.  I will introduce myself accordingly.

I am currently serving with one of my hometown National Guard units.  I have over over 20 years of service and 12 of those years on Active Duty.  I am an Infantryman and looking forward to my retirement which is coming soon.  Additionally, I am in the LE community which is what I do to pay the bills.  If you don't mind, I would like to give you a quick rundown of what seems to be plaguing my current build.

I have decided on using the Seekins Precision MCSR V2 15" K-Mod Rail and I was wondering if there will be any fitment issues (Proprietary Barrel Nut) with the Adams Arms Piston system?  I have attempted to contact by calling and emailing a salesman and Tech at Seekins Precision and he basically told me that they no longer offering in house gunsmith work as they are currently focusing on production and operations.  I would have to find a gunsmith to modify the proprietary barrel nut (if needed).  However, it would void my warranty.  I though I had read somewhere on this forum about this issue before?  However, I couldn't find it again.  I just wanted to know from the guy if they had modified their barrel nut before and could it be done safely?  Unfortunately, he did not address these issues and has not responded to my follow up emails since.  I'm not that concerned with how Seekins Precision has handled this issue.  I do want to be sure I have a good match of components for my new build.  Does anyone have experience with this setup or know if these components are in fact compatible.  Any advise or input would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.

Ok, I see what you saying.  I like options 1 and 3.  If I mess up the Piston Drive Rod, I can always order another one or two.  I appreciate your advise and taking the time to read the forums.  Adams Arms customer service is top notch and you guys deserve great praise.  Not everyone in this industry takes the time to do what you guys do.  Thank you.

I can't keep track of all the models and designations but I have a Adams Arms piston kit on my Seekins receiver forearm rifle. It is the older original version ion a light Voodoo barrel and .625" gas block. I had to cut the top of the rail out to clear the gas piston section it cleared the actuation rod fine. You can see the section I cut out as I covered it with a rail filler.

908ssp,

First of all.  Thank you for your response and that is an awesome looking weapon.  I can only hope that my AR15 turns out as nice as yours.

Question.  Did you have to modify the Seekins Precision barrel nut in order to allow the Adams piston drive rod to function properly?  I did some research first and purchased their new XLP gas block instead of their low profile gas block.  I just received the XLP gas block via UPS today shortly after my post.  I immediately installed it on the barrel with zero fitment issues.  The rest of the AA piston kit should arrive later this week.  I am concerned about the functionality of the Adams drive rod operating properly through the Seekins barrel nut.  I don't want to modify the barrel nut if at all possible.  However, if I knew for sure, it wouldn't cause any safe function issues I might consider drilling and tapping it or turning the drive rod as it was suggested.  I would certainly have a qualified gunsmith perform the work either way.  Thx

Honestly I don't think so. I had to go look and all I can see is that my nut is titanium and has two flats on it. It is possible I made the nut. I do that kind of thing without giving it much thought. If you run into trouble PM me and I'll pull the hand guard a see if I can find you a solution.

Can't help you with any Adams Arms specifics, but here's an overhead photo of the Seekins barrel nut for the MCSR V2 with my Osprey piston kit installed. Length of travel through the nut is about 1.35".

If the AA drive rod is the same dimension as the stock gas tube, you should have no problems.

I appreciate you guy's for taking the time to assist.

Update:

[email protected]
Has replied to my emails and we had a chance to discuss the issue in good detail.  Cody, thank you for your input as well.  It looks like my best option at this time is to turn the two (2) shoulders where the spring and bushing rest during normal operation, approximately 1/2 inch further up the drive rod shaft in the direction of the gas block.  I will certainly get a more precise measurement before we start.  There is a video of a guy on You Tube who successfully did a similar modification on a Spike's Tactical BAR rail installation with no problem.  If this work's and I didn't see any reason why it shouldn't.  This could be done with many other proprietary barrel nuts that are not standard size or similar in design.  It might not be bad idea for Adams Arms to offer custom turned piston drive rod's to their loyal and valued customers.  Additionally, I have included a link to the video for anyone who is interested.  The funny things about this whole thing.  The same exact video is on Adams Arms website.  You would think someone at Adams Arms would have known this little tidbit of information!  Anyway, I thought it was a simple solution and most likely won't cost much to have a qualified gunsmith to turn down the piston drive rod.  I will update this thread when it finished.  With pictures of course.

Thx

I forgot to add the link!
