The other day at the gun shop I saw an AR on the wall. They said it was a long piston version as opposed to the others that were short piston. They said it is the softest shooting of all of them. Can anyone tell me which companies have a long piston model?

I've shot a PWS gun (16" barrel, 223 cal), and I swear it feels softer shooting than a DI gun (16" barrel, 223 cal).  I was shocked.

The PWS piston is different than most other brands and while it may be softer because of that it might also be the very effective FSC556 muzzle brake reduces recoil and barrel rise and is the reason or helps the PWS feel even softer

Their description of the FSC556 muzzle brake states:
In addition to offering superior compensation characteristics, PWS FSC Series provides enough flash suppression to keep the flash out of your optics and line of sight. Designed for both competitive and tactical use, the FSC Series allows for superior muzzle stabilization and aids the shooter in faster follow-up shots and accuracy.

I can state my PWS carbines can get off 3 rounds to 2 rounds of my other AR DIs with birdcage or flash hiders because the brake keeps the muzzle rise down

Good points.  But I've got a lot of experience shooting a 223 16" barrel DI gun with a FSC comp (awesome comp by the way).  The PWS gun might be softer shooting than that.

I didn't do any scientific testing.  But I was shocked at how soft shooting the PWS gun was.

LDB415, I think most people refer to this design as a "long stroke" design, not "long action."
