I have this strange issue with a new 16" Adam Arms upper. When I close the ejection port cover and turn the weapon sideways, the cover pops open. Have others had this happen?

I thought perhaps the difference in bolt design and the tension on the bolt pushing it to a more rearward position might have something to do with it. Seems the port cover mechanism that keeps it closed is not centered with the recessed part of the bolt. Instead it seems to be on the shoulder of the recess....if that makes sense.

Before I start making modifications to the port cover mechanism to reduce some contact with the bolt, I thought I would ask the experts.

I remember a review on Midway where an owner had the exact same issue.
Mine snaps shut and stays shut, no issues. I'd contact AA here (or use their industry section here) to see if they can help you with this.

Wow, I also have noticed that my AA upper has the same issue with the ejection port cover popping open when the rifle is handled. I just sorta forgot about it cause it is normally always open on the range anyway. If there is a simple easy way of fixing that, I would like to read about it!!

Same here. Base upper with a few hundred rounds through it and it had had issues staying closed since day one. I can put it in my case closed and next time I touch the case it's open.

I had an M&P 15 that did that. Any bump, jostle, or just time would leave me with an open port door. Replaced the door with no difference.

Contact AA. Great customer service and I'm sure they'll take care of you.

Yeah, contact AA and see if they will help.  It's a fairly common issue with their uppers.

Most likely the detent notch is out of spec in the upper.  It can happen to old rifles with lots of use/wear.

The latch mechanism on the port door can and will loosen over time as well.

Hi Cody from Adams Arms, I can't seem to send any email to that email address you posted. I would like to see if there is a way to keep the ejection port cover harder to open on my AA EVO upper I bought from Midway. Love the way it shoots and how clean the upper is after a day at the range!! The port cover is not a big deal to me but if there is a simple fix I can do it would be nice!
Thanks alot.

As far as an actually fix, i would imagine you would have to replace the upper receiver. but when i experienced this i found that it was the carrier popping the EPC open, and i solved the issue by polishing down the back of the EPC detent housing, until the carrier could no longer pop it open. then i blacked the raw metal and it's been functioning fine.
