Hey all. Well I finally finished my coconut 601 clone.
The original plan was to replicate the coconut as close as possible .
But when John Thomas was painting the stocks I forgot to tell him
My plan. And I wasn't about to distress his fine work .and since distressed
Receivers weren't going to look right with new looking receivers ...
Well, you have the coconut as it left the assembly line. Lol.

Fist this gun was done with all reproduction parts.
The only original part is the carrier. You will have to overlook
The missing type A.

Stocks painted by John Thomas. The pics really don't do them justice,
They are amazingly cool..
John Thomas also supplied one of his custom early bend gas tubes.
Lower by braceman and all upper re profiling , small parts
Mag bottom plates and parkerizing .
Brace also sleeved a Olympic cast FSB for the green mountain barrel.
The bolt , buffer, spring and LPK are all
Rock river.
The receivers are finished with norrells

Enjoy.

With its green brother

Your mag catch isn't screwed in far enough (should be flush), but it looks very nice.

Was the 601 issued with waffle mags or was it after on later model?
I think Nordak also makes the brown stock furniture.

You got 2 sweet looking guns.

Thanks . No green ones were done by Thomas . That gun originally had a set
On it that was painted by heat&beat. i replaced that set when I finally got a type A
And had them all redone

Thank you sir . Waffle mags were used on the early test guns.
But weren't used long. By the time xm16e1 was coming around ,
Waffles were phased out.

I'm not a expert on this ... Somebody add to this or correct me
If I'm wrong ?

Thanks man!
I've yet to see a real one. I was supposed to take the Knights arms museum
Tour 8 wks ago but they canceled on me last minute.
And all we have locally is the 45th infantry museum.
Which has a nice collection of WW2 weapons but that's about it.

Actually, early 601 mag catch studs were shorter than later ones.
See #748 (mine)...

Trimdad, Your guns look great.

OlGunner is right on about the original 601 mag catches.  Here's another pic of an original at Rock Island.

Another way to tell that it's in far enough is from the other side of the release.

It's in far enough when this side of the release is protected from unscrewing when you press the mag release button in with your finger.

I got it right and didn't even know it, lol
Circuits was right, it needed another turn. But I will probably
File a little off the screw end of the catch. So it's tight
But still not flush
