Is there any certain date range for when they switched to the fat grips or were they in simultaneous usage? I always believed the skinny ones to be earlier but is this true? Thanks for any info.

for later black grips, there are 3 variants

1 - full skinny (same shape as the 601 grips), found on 602s, early 604s and early xm16e1s
2 - skinny at the bottom - most common found on m16a1s and probably late 604s/xm16e1s
3 - fat at the bottom (most likely gm/h&r)
