I received a rear sight kit for a retro A1 build. I was told it was a genuine USGI parts kit. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I have tried to run some of the information on the kit but did not come up with much.

EDIT Colt was changed to USGI

It's NOS 1974 USGI and Colt was the only player in M-16 game in 1974.  Generally classified as NOS Colt for selling by most or genuine USGI would be a more accurate description IMO.  It's basically an authentic replacement sight kit in USGI packaging.  Same thing Colt used in production pieces from same place more than likely.

Doubt seriously Colt actually made any of the sight parts in house  but don't think that's what you're asking.  In reality Colt produced approximately 20ish  M-16 parts in house.  Look up actual number and parts if you want.  Info is out there.  The rest were always sub contract produced for Colt or produced under Colt license.  Exceptions were late VN conflict era with H&R, GM coming in off the bench and  Diemaco, Elisco and FN later on for the most part and it's not any of those IMO.

Most the commercial market pieces were produced by DPMS or on their tooling or so I have been told.  Sendra made some of their own and probably a couple others including Asian mfg.  Generally the Asian and Sendra are cheesy at best.

They are new old stock USGI factory A1 rear sight kits from 1974.  I don't know about Colt having anything to do with them directly other then the milspec for the military parts contract.  They are great kits and a lot of us on here purchased them.

I got two of the same, while "expensive", they are outstanding.

I am looking for two drums. I tried to order two complete sights from Sarco Arms by piecing together the parts, and after a month of waiting they finally sent me everything but the drums. Windham weaponry has run out.

I want to put together at least one more retro style build with wood furniture in the near future. I am going to use the Brownells A1 upper and lower or a matching set from NoDak Spud using one of his 80% lowers.

Thanks.  I don't know what the going rate is.  I'm also looking for parts to do a retro build. $25 doesn't seem out if the ballpark to me for a set that seems to be difficult to find.

$40 for NOS USGI at Amherst Depot since they dried up and some are re-selling these for $60 or trying to sell them for that.

Bushmaster shows A-1 sight parts in 2016 catalog.  When I called back in May they were installing the DPMS tooling in new plant and was told production should have been started by now.  Don't have a clue on possible delays.  I was given part number F1003282 for complete sight assembly, retail less than $15.

I'm not sure but I think you might have been given some bad information on that Bushmaster part number.  Bushmaster part #F1003282 is a current number for an A2 sight aperture.

FWIW, the NSN listed on that sight package comes up as an M16 or M16A1 rear sight aperture (ONLY).  I also have one that I bought from Amherst, but it cost me more than $25.  I'm looking for a windage drum, aperture leaf spring and pin to complete another set, without any luck so far.

I evidently wrote it down wrong when I called back in May or was given the wrong part number.  I also have #A1 rsite assy written down at $11.95 retail available in July.

Regardless if I was looking for one I'd call their customer service and find out if available or if they could give another lead time.

Bushmaster still does NOT have any and does not expect them in the next 4-6 weeks.  BTW the phone number on their new web site is WRONG.  Call the dealer number and get them to transfer your call.   Evidently the web site is WAY down on their priorities.

Amherst does have them, but they are selling a bunch!

I recently gave $35 for a very nice used usgi A1 rear sight. I was happy with that.

You got a good deal.  Amherst was $35, when everybody started buying them thanks to posts here, Amherst bumped the price to $40.
