Alright, black Anderson A2 lower with an early round forge Colt 603 upper, Ceracoated black, with a Del-Ton 16" Pencil barrel.  Right now with a Californication legal bullet button and 10/20 Colt magazine.  I am still waiting on the M16A1 birdcage flash hider Boiywonder777 sent, so I used my California legal CAV break. I couldn't wait to finish it and show off my baby.  It will be a perfect companion for my 604 Black Beauty with an Anderson lower and Fulton upper.

I will probably run it California "Featureless" with a Kydex wrap, the CAV break, and the stock pinned, so I can use my grandfathered high-caps.

Nice! If the high cap mags are grandfathered in then you can use them in that gun. The only point of featureless is so you don't have to have a bullet button.

Actually, it has to be "Featureless" (no pistol grip, no flash hider, no collapsable stockn - like M1 Carbine, etc) to use my high cap pre-1-1-2000 possessed by me in California mags.  If I put them in a bullet buttoned AR (like my 604) it is a felony!  The kydex paddle prevents a "pistol type grasp where the web of the hand between the thumb and index finger can not grasp the grip below the top pane of the trigger housing", the stock is pinned, and the CAV is a muzzle break, not flash hider.

I can't believe CA makes people put that stuff on their rifles. Shaking my head right now. How do those mods make that rifle any less threatening??

Sweet!  Just like mine, except for the Brunton Bump.  That is actually a good way to go, especially if you have a left handed shooter in the family.

The Del-Ton pencil barrel is a bit heavier than a Colt or some of the others, but I'll take the couple extra ounces under the handguards to have a 16" barrel, complete with FSB, for $154!  Now I need to shoot it!  Next Tuesday is the day.

No.  Has anyone told you no yet?  Because, no.

Using a mag over 10 rds. with a BB creates an assault weapon as defined by the state of California.

eta Oh I see someone has told you.

The irony of the pending California legislation to Ban semi autos and register all existing ones (even with bullet buttons) as assault weapons, will remove the bullet button classification, so once registered, they won't need bullet buttons.  Not sure if I explained it well, but it will not differentiate between a Ruger Mini-14 or an AR15 with or without a bullet button.

It removes the "evil features" wording and simply states if it is semiautomatic, and uses a magazine that can be removed without disassembly of the weapon, it is an assault weapon.  M1 Garands, 1905 Winchester 351 self loaders, 742 Remingtons, Winchester Model 100s, all become assault rifle.

Now it has to be festureless to use pre-2000 high caps. after the law passes and even featurelss rifles are registered, then any one can use them in a registered assault rifle.  If I still had the SP1 I sold in 2000 that I had registered, I could still use them.

In a REGISTERED pre ban gun.  Registered Assault Weapons (RAWs) only.  Had to be registered back in 2000.

eta Or of course a featureless weapon.  I like the Ares SCR.

Not trying to turn this political, but as a citizen trapped in the PRNY I sympathize :(

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-sac-essential-politics-updates-gov-brown-signs-six-gun-control-bills-1467394282-htmlstory.html

Bills the governor signed will:

— Require those who make guns at home to register them with the state and get a serial number so the weapons can be tracked

— Require an ID and background check to purchase ammunition and create a new state database of ammunition owners

— Ban possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.

— Restrict the loaning of guns without background checks to close family members.

Wow, it happened!  I go up on a 4 mile hike in the mountains and come back to this news!

Well, at least I don't have to register my M1 Carbine, because it does not have any evil features. Ruger Mini-14s, M1As, ARES SCAR, and kel-Techs are still not condsidered assault weapons under the new law.  They will be limited to 10 rounders, though.

As for magazines, fortunately I am exempt because I am an honorably retired California Peace Officer with a retired LEO ID.  The only exemption to the magazine ban are Peace Officers, active and retired, Armored car companies, FFLs that have a high capacity sales permit, and movie prop companies.

I do feel bad for all of the non-LEO types that have legal pre-ban high cap magazines.  They will have to either permanently block them to 10 rounds, turn them in for confiscation (God what an ugly word.  It should never be uttered in America!) or send them out of state.

While technically, I could run my ARs, my AK, and my PTR91 "featureless" still and not register them, if I register them as RAWs after 1-1-2017, I don't have to use them featureless any more.  I can use a standard mag release and have a pistol grip because they will be registered.

Range report.  Forest Service lands up here are insanely dry, so I took the 653 build to the local indoor range to at least "battle sight it at 25 yards until I can do an outdoor range some day.  At least then it will be on the paper at 100.  I used the old style M16/M14 25 yard target like I used in basic , a rectangle with a notch out of the bottom.  POA is 6 o'clock on the notch and POI is 1" below the notch.

Best groups were 1/2" to 3/4".  I think the shorter sight radius (than the 20" retro that shot one hole)  made a difference, along with bad lighting (with some burnt out overheads). Ammo was Federal 223, Federal Lake City 5.56, and my 55 grain reloads using IMR4198 and IMR4064  Carbine worked flawlessly.  I really like this better than my flat top M4gery.  No pics, as I had forgot my cell phone in the car.
