This last weekend I spoke with the owner of the company that is supplying Colt with the reproduction triangle handguards that they will be using in their "retro" builds.  He said that there has been a slight delay in having the molds made (at a cost of over $70,000), but they should be done soon. He says that the handguards will be EXACTLY like the originals in all respects.  I asked if they will be available for purchase by themselves, and he confirmed that they will, and the retail price will most likely be in the $80-$90 range.  He also plans to mold some in BROWN and GREEN.

80-90   That's a lot of money for something that should cost 50 $ at the most

I agree.  I too was hoping that they would be $50 or less.  I'm just passing on the information that I was given.  I guess they have to be sure and recoup the mold cost and stamping die cost (for the heat shields).  There are only so many sets that will be sold before the market is saturated (albeit temporarily), and they have to insure a profit.  I, for one, will probably not be buying a set at that price point.

Yeah until you need a set real bad for something.I guess if you spent 70 grand you could wait decades to recoup it back.most companies today can't afford that luxury.i guess real deal ones are at least 50 or 60 now. but for some strange reason I can't seem to find a new set for less then a 100 buck's.I wish them luck in all of it at least somebody stepped forward and is getting it done.

we all will have hand guards and hey Brown and Green would be cool!

Glad they are making them, but no way would I pay that much for a set.

Now I see how they plan to get 3k for those rifles...every part is costing crazy price to make.

Model 1 Sales used to have them at $40.  They've been out of stock for awhile now, though.  Wonder where they got their stock...
I got a set from them several years ago at a fun show.

Neither would I but they are still way cheaper than that one guy that sells them for $200 a set in "excellent condition".

Yes I have them for 30 a set however out of stock FOREVER!

There are those who have and those who have not that's the greatest thing about the gun folk.. If you want it get it If you don't who care's.
I am all for people not buying stuff when I am looking. this way I can get it.I wish the new builders of the retro Colts much success.

And there will be those that will own them, And others who won't, That is what Freedom is all about.

Now get me a few pair new in wrap for 100 buck's I'm on for that

Very well daid, sir. A short while ago I started typing a teply, then deleted it. Let me add that as a toolmaker I have many requests for custom machined parts, with the prospective recepient willing to pay peanuts. Something for nothing must be the mantra of gun nuts.

I don't think $80-$90 is unreasonable, considering some folks are charging $100 for demil'd ones that are mismatched. For a set that'll likely match colors, textures and are at least 30 years newer, I'd pay it and will.

Any chance they'll sell just left-side ones solo for $40? :  )

(I'll only buy green or brown if the color matches a Cerakote color, or someone else's repro A1 stock & pistol grip, which is highly unlikely.)

Yes that is true but I always paya fair share for fair work and product. read my first post. But hey everybody has to know their limitation's. And when it comes to gun stuff many just want to steal until they want to sell.when these come around I will buy a few sets just to have them in case.

I'm sure that would require just as much or more tooling or molds whatever is used.

Get some milsurps to "cut n past".
It might take a few try's to get it right.
Cut the front end. Use trims off what you cut and fix the two.
Don't epoxy the h/g to the barrel. Ask me how I know

It would be cheaper to make a new frontcap a bit larger in ratio to the rifle version.
When you cut the h/g and note the reinforcement ribs. It appears it was meant to be done the way.
There is also a rib right where the carbine cut should be.
The part could be stamped or CNC cut

It would nice if they did some grips and buttstocks in colors too but I guess whatever they do will be a help.

got mine from sirplus supply years ago.   How many rifles would they have to sell for them to make the money back ? Unless they will make the molds with multiple parts in them like Handguards buttstocks and pistol grips
